Okay so in descending order I've got:
The Audio Folder 
The Auto-save Copy of xxxxx (xxxxx= my project name)
Then I have a .assets version of the Auto-save Copy
Then my Project File
And under that I have a list of files the first of which is xxxxx.cwp with a date with some extra numbers on the end, than an ASSETTS File. These go on for a total of 8 then the last is xxxxx.cwp.assets.
 
I've done some googling and I believe the assets file is to do with Gobbler? I've not set Gobbler up as yet so I'm guessing it's something that X3 does by default but what are the other files and why so many?

Currently the asset files are only used by Gobbler. To stop their creation check "Save Asset Manifests With Project" in Preferences > File > Advanced. Every cwp file has an associated asset file.
 

Ah so it is possible to delete them. The other info I found last night seemed to indicate otherwise and that they might be needed for something else down the tracks. I think I'll leave them be as they ain't taking up a lot of room. I was just curious and they do make the folder contents look a tad untidy.

as scook said, you can turn them off. i'm sure that when Cakewalk start using the files for any other than Gobbler it'll be a significant enough feature that we'll all know about it.

and I just realised I said 'delete' when I meant to say 'stop them being created'
