This tune has a lot of instruments, all real, I've never mixed anything like this before.

Drums, Bass, Guitars, Organ, Clav, 2 saxes, 4 trumpets, Congas, Triangle, Shaker, Quiro. maybe something else too lol

Anyway I hope it's in the ballpark. Tear it apart if you will. I just want to make it as good as I can.

Thank you.

P.S. Not my tune, I simply recorded and mixed.

Top class production, I can follow everything you mentioned in the OP. That's a very good mix.

Horn section up when it's leading, which is most of the time. Maybe the bass down a hair, just a tiny hair. Clav player sounds like in the next apartment, very faint.

I liked the funky guitar section lead riffage - I noticed that in that section, the bass is lower than in the first "horn section" section. I think that's why it works better.

Great playing, really fun arrangements - I really enjoyed it!

Like the mix! Sound great! Like the organ how it sits in the mix. Are all the instruments real?

I think this mix is just about perfect. Horn "breathe" nicely between phrases. Drums are great, as are the organ and guitars. Bass comes and goes a bit, but is still present. Percussion section is right there, at least the congas and shakers, couldn't really hear anything else.

Dan

Holy crap! You sound great! I'd bring the bass up and some of the horn stabs are a bit loud but otherwise it's a great mix.

Thanks for the input... keep it coming please. Little things are often subjective, so far at least no one thinks things are totally out of wack. Getting the bottom right always seems to be the tricky part for me.

Yes all the instruments are real, except I'm not totally sure about the keyboards, though they were played by a real player.  The Bass, Trumpets and Keys were done via the internet, the rest was done here in my home studio.

Might add Mr Charlie Chalmers did the saxes.

The song was written by  John Holt, he did the guitars

Well, that has to be one of the best mixes I have heard, with multiple instrumentation, in quite a while. Oh, it could use a tweak here and there, like all of our music, but for a first time up with this piece it sounded really nice through my Hi-Deph headset and had lots of great clarity all around. Great job and thanks for sharing!!

Peace and Blessings, John
