  • Producer X3e update: monitors blinking every 3 to 5 minutes

This is a new problem started after installation of PX3e update. When I installed it and it was supposed to launch application, it said- some process failed- I did not write it down, thinking it would fix itself when I restart. So I opened Sonar manually- it looked fine. I restarted computer just in case and loaded the project. I have 2 monitors set up. Both monitors blinking every 3 to 5 minutes randomly. I restarted computer again, but the problem persists.

I have strong 2013 build custom computer with AMD Radeon 7850 graphic card (2Gb). It should be able to handle Sonar. I have 16 Gb of memory at 1600 Mhz, Intel 520 SSD, Intel 3770K processor (quad core). Windows 8.1. 64 bit.

Another thing is I installed Rob Papen Blue 2. It is new software synth that may have a glitch. Eventually I will test another project without it, but I have a feeling- it is not what causes the blinking. I had other Rob Papen plug ins- did not have this issue. This project also has 2 instances of Izotope Beat Breaker- did not have issue last couple of days, till the PX3e update. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thank you.

What's blinking on the monitors? Lowest LED on an input level meter of powered monitors...? If that's the case, it could be the interface spitting low-level noise on its own. See if it happens with SONAR's audio engine turned off.

But chances are it's a plugin. See if it happens with Always Stream Audio Through FX disabled.

"Monitors" as in displays or things that make noise?

Hello could you please be more specific on what "blinking" actually means.
Also could you state the make and model of the monitors with the issue. Thanks.

Guys, blinking means visual, not sound. Blinking like if you close your eyes for a second to moisture them. It is like 2 monitors (27 inch monitors where you see your software) blinking together at the same time- like if they were refreshing- light goes off and comes back on, but faster- no black screen- just a blink. Like Sonar with all open windows refreshes. The line that runs over the tracks during playback jumps on top of open plugins. As I was working last night, I have been seeing it less after I froze audio from Blue II soft synth. But one way or another- it is uncomfortable feeling like Sonar is about to crash. Some time Beat Tweaker would suddenly play when no Play is pressed- just odd behavior.

Make sure that your drivers for your graphics card are up to date. But you may need to move to Windows 7 or better Windows 8. Sonar is not supported on XP

Blinking 'ell :) I think you mean flickering?

Try John's idea first though I suggest, and also make sure you've run windows update several times and installed optional fixes.

Does it happen outside of Sonar?

If so...

Could it be something to do with the monitor refresh rate? Try changing it perhaps in windows and please make sure your cables are secure.

If issue still persists please state the make and model of your monitors.

John, thank you for the reply. It states in the first post: "I have strong 2013 build custom computer with AMD Radeon 7850 graphic card (2Gb). It should be able to handle Sonar. The issue started after Sonar PX3e was installed and Blue 2 by Rob Papen. My video driver Catalyst may be one version older, but nobody updates graphics every update unless they are gamers. Refresh rate was not changed. It is Sonar's behavior: some time Beat Tweaker continues playing when playback stopped (BeatTweaker is a drum program)- new issue. The running line jumps on top of plugin windows after everything blinks like software windows become inactive. Just strange stuff. Will watch it more tonight.

You need to update your signature which clearly states "Windows XP SP3"
