Hi, I'm finally starting to do some serious audio recording in Sonar again (after a long interval), and I'm in the middle of recording right now (although these are temporary takes). And.........I'm already confused. I'd be glad if someone who's experienced in recording audio with take lanes could answer this. Please see the following screenshots for details (sorry the letters are probably a bit too small...):

Thanks

I hit Ctrl+Z to undo the last take and..........the muted (?) waveform is still there and I can't hear it...

And I see the same issue in Sound on Sound mode. I must be missing something...

Ah.....it looks like I have to specify the lane first (by arming the lane). Quite different from the behavior I see in MIDI recording.

Weird...  the "hollow" waveform display typically means you've muted a clip region:

But I'm not sure how that would be accomplished using Lanes since the comp mode splits and mutes entire clips, not regions.   Can't say I've ever seen this before!

Thanks Steve. I'll read the manual and watch videos to learn how to properly record audio in the post-X2 system (i.e. Take Lanes). After my previous post I only used Overwrite mode with punch in/out, and always armed a lane before recording. Not sure if I can effectively make use of the three recording modes. Maybe I don't really need Comping mode...

You're welcome.    I don't pesonally use comp mode as often as I layer, but I'm glad it's there when I need it.

As Steve indicated, region muting is done/undone using the Mute tool. Dragging in the bottom of a clip with the Mute tool will mute a region, and dragging across a muted region in the top of the clip will unmute it.

Also, Ctrl-dragging with the Mute tool will Isolate a region by region-muting clips in other lanes. This was the predecessor to the Comp tool, but still exists.

I don't think there's an accelerator to get muting from the Smart tool, so I think you must have inadvertently select the Mute tool at some point.

You know, that's what I was thinking after the fact too...    An accidental function key press followed by dragging across a clip as though in comp mode - I suppose it could be a possibility!
