I'm running a test in a new project but can't reproduce the issue. 
I'm sure I didn't accidentally select the Mute tool (which requires two presses of F10, or hitting T plus a click or hitting the mousewheel button plus a click) because I didn't have to switch it back to Smart Tool after that. Not sure what happened yesterday. Maybe I'll encounter the issue again someday...
