This may be a version-specific issue (base version only).
(edit: The replies below indicate it's NOT a version-specific issue. And it's not just MIDI tracks that have this issue.)

1. Create a new project using the Normal Project template.
2. Go to Edit > Preferences > Customization > Colors, then choose "All Colors" from the Color Category drop-down menu, followed by clicking "Defaults: All Colors" and "Apply" to initialize the color settings.
3. Save the project and restart Sonar to make sure the change is fully applied.
4. Go to Edit > Preferences > Customization > Colors again and then choose "Console View" from the Color Category pull-down.
5. Change the color of "Console MIDI Track Name Text" from the default light blue to something else (let's use yellow), then click Apply.
6. Exit Preferences.

[Expected Results]
The MIDI track's name and number in the Console view and the Inspector both change color.

[Actual Results]
Only the color of the track number is updated (see screenshot below). And it stays like this even after restarting Sonar.

1. Change the Audio Track Name color and the MIDI Track Name will change also. Yes it should be separate.

2. The Mains Name color does not change on the fly but will change after reopening Sonar.

3. The Name Background colors have been removed which is a shame. I'm sure it is because of the new way for identifying a FOCUSed track.

I always hide MIDI tracks in the Console view so I didn't realize this. So I've just created all types of tracks and buses and ran a test and it resulted like this:

Not only MIDI tracks but also Instrument tracks show their names in yellow (=Audio track's color). And buses show their alphabets in white (=Main's color).

Looks like the bakers forgot to check these before releasing the product.

Looks like a number of issues here then, all confirmed. But I'm confirming #1 anyway.

It appears to affect only the Console View. If you can, update your report to include these findings.

The Inspector view as well. As for the ticket, it's been submitted to development so I can no longer update it. I don't use simple instrument tracks and don't show MIDI tracks in the Console view, so it's not a big issue for me. But I hope someone in the development is reading this thread and will fix all of these soon.

Yep, I found the same problem in Console View, not Track View, and didn't check Inspector view.

It was X3c when I set it all up, didn't fully diagnose it since I thought it would be better to update to X3d first before reporting bugs in an old version... looks like it is still in X3d (Producer in my case).

  • Midi Tracks inherits the Audio track colour - but the numbers are ok
  • Simple Instrument Tracks inherit the Midi track colour - but the numbers are ok
  • Bus names are ok, but the Bus Letter inherits the Main Out colour
  • Main Out colour is ok
  • Synth (audio) Tracks seem to be ok
  • Folders don't show up in Console so isn't an issue

As noted above, to get all of the colours to apply a restart of Sonar is required.  It looks like the Console label background colours get exported in a colour set file, but the values are ignored and don't appear in the list inside the Sonar preferences.

I just imported a color set from X2a and these will not change. Oddly, they are still listed in the Registry.

According to Jlien X not fixed in X3E.
