  • X3 - ZOOM Driving Me MAD! Can We Have The MELODYNE method?

Hi All

I have been having no end of issues, which are ruining my workflow in Sonar X3

These mainly relate to the ALT + Mouse Scroll zoom - which now zooms to the bottom of the Track View in X3c (and zoomed to the top in X3b)

Is there any chance this can be given some "love" in X3d

OR

Can we have the MELODYNE ZOOM method of pressing CTRL + ALT to zoom in both directions, which I think works perfectly!

So, did you send in a bug report for this particular issue (which you also mentioned in another thread)?
I recommend capturing the behavior in a video using software like Jing and attach it to the ticket.

Zoom shortcuts
--------------
SHIFT click on Zoom buttons = Make largest/smallest zoom.
CTRL + Arrow keys = Best way to Zoom!
Hold down Z, Select area = Zoom in on that area! Alt-Z undos this!
F = Fit tracks to the window
AlZ-Z = Undoes a screen action.
SHIFT Double click a clip = Maximizes it.
F11 = Full screen mode
SHIFT-Z = Enable/disable auto Zoom on tracks.

is vertical zoom with the scroll wheel something you need to have?  If you set the vertical zoom modifier to 1.0, I think your issues will probably stop.

I've been using Sonar since Sonar6, but never used Z+select area before.
It's a great zoom feature!
Learning something new everyday.
Thank's CakeAlexS

"So, did you send in a bug report for this particular issue (which you also mentioned in another thread)?"

I have been trying to verify and confirm the issue before submitting a report and seeing if anyone is experiencing the same, which it seems not many are so I have been suspecting my own system/workflow/understanding (or lack of!)

If it were a bug I would have thought there would be loads of people reporting it - doesn't everyone use VERTICAL zoom?

Interestingly I have tried using the CTRL+Arrow keys, seemed to have identified the issue as only relating VERTICAL zoom

ie CTRL + left & rght arrow works perfectly - but CTRL + up & down causes mayhem with the Track View screen moving around and eventually going to the bottom of the screen

I get the same behaviour for any method of VERTICAL zoom? (including all the options in the helpful list ALEX has provided)

I currently use VERTICAL zoom a lot - ie zooming in to line up clips etc. (eg lining up a bass and kick)

I have set the VERTICAL zoom to 1.0 (effectively disabling it) and the ALT+Mouse scroll works perfectly for HORIZONTAL zoom

Is anyone else having issues with VERTICAL zoom?

Have you searched?  There are in fact threads discussing various issues with zoom and the mouse wheel. I recall seeing others post about what you describe.  I (and others) have seen different issues than what you describe, but with various zoom options available they may all be related bugs that vary depending on what options you have enabled.  I have submitted bug reports, and encourage you to do the same.

This has always been a mystery to me because i have never figured out how to turn zoom back off.
Most probably a "doh!" moment.

You know I am.
Well, below is an issue I reported to CW several days ago (but the ticket status is still "new")
Try reproducing this, because I believe it's directly related to your issue.

---
1. Load the Normal project template
2. In the Track View, go to Options > Mouse Wheel Zoom Options, and set up the options like this: http://i.imgur.com/Kh4V3EI.png
3. Minimize the size (height) of the two default tracks
4. Hide the MultiDock and the Bus pane in the Track View
5. Add 78 MIDI tracks
6. Put the first 40 tracks and the remaining 40 tracks into two different track folders (Folder 1 & Folder 2)
7. Collapse only the first track folder (Folder 1)
8. Your screen should now look like this: http://imgur.com/4Ot03eV
9. Select one of the tracks shown in the lower half of the screen (In my case, I select Track 60)
(note: Do NOT scroll down and try to select one of the tracks currently not visible in the screen)
10. In that track, hold Alt and scroll up the mouse wheel to vertically zoom the track for it to occupy the Track View

[Expected Results]
The maximized track occupies the Track View

And, as I suspected, this also happens when you use CTRL+Up/Down Arrow keys instead of the mouse wheel.

#9 I can reproduce in X3D, although my actually results tended to differ slightly. Mouse zoom with scrollwheel stopped working eventually. Is there a Cakewalk problem reporter number for this? Cheers...
