I was wondering who might also have this interface and what problems did you troublshoot with success? Also what were the computer specs? I have this and managed to get in running but there are some gliches happening. I tried to find any info but none of it is informative. Can you daisy-chain this to another using spdif??? What are my possibilites??

I'm still using a Q10 that I bought when they first came out in 2002.  I have not had major problems with my Q10 that required troubleshooting, so I can't help you with that.  What problems are you having?
 
My computer, which I built, is also from 2002.  MOBO is an ASUS P4S800D-S.  One gig of RAM. ASUS A9550 video card.  OS is Windows XP, SP3.  I'm still running Sonar 5.2 so I don't know about how the Q10 works with higher versions of Sonar.
 
Your "glitches" may or may not be related to the Q10.  I assume you've got your buffers set appropriately, etc..  Which Aardvark driver are you using?  Which driver model are you using, ASIO or the proprietary Aardvark A/WDM? 
 
You don't use S/PDIF to daisy chain Q10's, you use the Word Clock connectors on the back of the unit.  You can daisy chain up to four Q10's via wordclock, though I wouldn't guarantee how well this works.  I wouldn't try using a Q10 with another brand of interface in a daisy chain---I think you'd be asking for trouble. 
 
Don't know if any of this helps you or not but if you have any specific questions I'll be happy to try to answer them.  I'm not an expert by any means but I've had my Q10 running since 2002 on two different machines and it has worked wonderfully for me in both cases.

Awesome a fellow Q10 user....hahah.......well I played alot with the buffers and got them set right. I have realized that my RAM needs an increase. Also I have been recording to the cpu's internal hard drive which i found out is not a good idea. As for MOBO I don't have a clue what the hell is in it. It took forever to get this to run without driver reboots and crashes. I will look for all this info you asked and post back!!

Man, talk about beating a dead horse, or in my case Aardvark! I still have a Q10 and have been using it successfully for about 3 years. However I've only been recording 3 inputs at the most. Last week I had the opportunity to record a small band and attempted to use all 8 inputs. Complete failure! As soon as I got everybody lugged in and started setting levels my Pc crashed. Because of the time factor I was unable to do any troubleshooting at the time and wound up using a different configuration (trusty old VS880s). 


My question is does anyone know of any forensics I can do to determine the reason of the crash? What,, if anything should I look for in the performance logs? Also is there any reasonable way to set this up to test it before getting in another 'live' situation? I mean I can only play 2 instruments at a time :).

I also have one of these wonderful dinosaurs. Actually well made. If I remember correctly, the company closed the doors before official support for xp3 was inplace. In fact, that may be the same for xp2. That is not to say that it won't work...just that it was not officially supported. Mine still runs fairly flawless on xp1 or xp1a. As far as checking your rig before the next session' just arm 8 tracks with 8 open mics or sound sources and hit record. If it craps out, you may be lacking enough cpu power, poor OS optimization, or miriad other things going on there. Mine runs best on ASIO. There is a support site on the web... just google Aardvark Q-10. They have drivers available and some info. I plan on keeping mine around as long as possible. The pres were actually quite good for there time...maybe even better than some of the low end crap they sell today.

I've removed all unnecessary services and programs from the OS. You mentioned OS optimization, do you have any other advice there?

The reason I keep this thing is for the preamps. I think they're great.

On that rig I am running a home built (circa 2003) amd ATHLON 2100 with a gigabite MOBO, 2 gig of ram and 2 7200rpm Maxtor IDA hard drives. Antec case and power supply. Good stuff for the day.  Nothing but windows xp Home sp1a (i think) and several sonar versions. I may have Sony ACID pro on there as well. As far as OS system tweeks, nothing too out of line. You need to remove all un-needed stuff that runs in the backround. If you Google, xp tweeks for DAW's you will see just what is needed. Again, I did nothing too invasive. System runs fine. Have had about 20 to 24 audio tracks with some plugs running without issue. Not alot of heavy editing though. It still works so I keep it for the pre's and maybe I will try it as some kind of summing rig. LOL!!!!!
