  • [Fixed in X3e] Mouse wheel zoom stops working (p.2)

Before Gibson took over and Sonar X3 came out there were a lot of issues with Cake. Even Cake admits this.
Frankly anything before X3 should be forgotten about (and I don't want to bring back suppressed memories) and we should all start anew.
What is encouraging is since X3 we have had tons of bugs fixed and three patches out, and they seem to turning every more transparent and communicative.
So I have every confidence then that Cake will sort this out for X3D or X3E patch.... BTW just my opinion based on no more than hunch..

Cheers...

By the way, I noticed another strange behavior related to this bug.  One the zoom stops working, try to use CTRL+arrows to zoom.  This doesn't work either, but instead results in scrolling through menu bar items.  Perhaps this bug is related to standard Windows programs behavior and hot keys?

Once you get out of this mode so that the menu items disappear (I either hit escape or clicked in the clips area, I can't recall exactly and I am not at my DAW), ALT+wheel works again.  Not only that, it continues to work after zooming in the ruler area. This could be an odd but effective workaround.

That's interesting. But, to be honest, I'm not using the Alt+wheel zoom on the time ruler anymore. When I started this thread, I wasn't aware of the "Simultaneous Horizontal and Vertical Zoom" option, and because I didn't like the track view zooming in/out both horizontally and vertically simultaneously, I was using the Alt+mouse wheel on the time ruler to zoom only horizontally, and that's when I found the bug and started this thread. Now, I have the simultaneous zoom option disabled, and just do Ctrl+Alt+wheel inside the Clip pane to do the horizontal zoom.

Update - I stumbled across a workaround to this. Once the zoom-with-mouse wheel function stops working, engage the zoom tool (i.e., hit the Z key) and then disengage it by engaging any other tool (e.g., the smart tool by clicking F5).  The zoom now works correctly again, and continues to work correctly even if you Alt+mouse wheel in the time line again.

I certainly hope CW fixes this.  These little nuisance bugs may have workarounds, but they collectively get in the way of efficient work flow.

I can reproduce the original post in X3D and have logged it under CWBRN-22811, let's hope it doesn't get withdrawn again...

Hi, I'm currently in touch with tech support regarding the following mouse wheel zoom issue. Since they couldn't recreate it, I'm wondering if I'm the only one who's experiencing it.
If you don't mind, please follow these steps and tell me the result.

1. In the Track View, go to Options > Mouse Wheel Zoom Options.
2. On the Mouse Wheel Zoom Options dialog box that opens, make sure 'At Cursor' is selected for all options and "Simultaneous Horizontal and Vertical Zoom" is unchecked.
3. Hold ALT and scroll the mouse wheel inside the Clips pane. The view is zoomed in/out both vertically (only the track that currently has the mouse cursor) and horizontally. I believe this is the default behavior.
4. Next, do the same (hold ALT and scroll the mouse wheel) on the Time Ruler. This time, the view is only zoomed in/out horizontally, as intended.
5. Go back to the inside of the Clips pane and do Step 3 again. In my case, the zoom feature stops working.

If I reopen the project, it starts working again. But once I do the ALT-scroll on the Time Ruler, it stops working.
This happens in any project (I checked it with the Normal template, too).

I appreciate your cooperation.

I can confirm some of this bug, but not all...

when I set all at cursoe and unselect Simultaneous, I get vertical zoom scrolling inside the clip...
I get no scrolling at all when I try to use alt-scroll on the timeline

So far, it hasn't stopped working if I never try to do the timeline scroll, but once I attempt the scroll on the timeline I must re-open the project to get it to work again...

Thanks for the additional confirmation and workarounds. Personally, as I mentioned in #12, I'm no longer suffering from this issue because I've been doing horizontal zoom by Ctrl+Alt+scrolling inside the Clips pane.

What I do find inconvenient (but strangely not mentioned by other users) regarding mousescroll zoom is that Ctrl+Alt+scrolling (horizontal zoom) and Alt+scrolling (vertical zoom) that both work in both the TV Clips pane and the PRV Notes pane don't work in the PRV Drum Grid pane. Also, the horizontal timeline zoom (right-clicking on the time ruler in the PRV and dragging up/down) doesn't work in the PRV Drum Grid pane (you guys don't use drum maps by any chance?). I reported these inconsistent behaviors some months ago and Ryan confirmed and forwarded them to development, so I'm hoping they'll also work in the Drum Grid pane in the future.

Also, there's currently no way to vertically zoom in/out ALL tracks in the Track View using the mouse wheel (although you can do it by hitting Ctrl+Up/Down arrow keys or by clicking the border between non-current tracks and dragging up/down). I submitted a request for this as well.

Just got an email from the problem report I submitted about this (CWBRN-22192).  It is officially "under investigation" at CW.
