  • Suggestion for a New Sonar GUI feature

I currently use Sonar with three monitors arranged in a triangle configuration. Left bottom is Track View. Right bottom is Multi-dock console view. Top is plugins/synths. What I am suggesting is a new window (or multi-dockable window) which allows placement of plugins/synths. This would have tabs like multi-dock and in each tabbed window, you could arrange plugin/synth GUIs. The tabbed windows could be assigned to tracks or busses. It might be nice to have a button on each console strip that would switch to the plugin tab window associated with that channel.

Right now, all my plugin GUIs in my top monitor float and even with just a few open, they have to overlap. It is also difficult to keep track of which plugin is associated with which track.

Since not everyone uses multiple monitors the plugin window could dock into the existing multi-dock and you could press the button on the channel strip and bring up the plugin GUI page assigned to that channel.

I know you can dock individual plugins/synths in multi-dock tabs, but only one per tab and there is no association with the plugin's track.

So by pressing the plugin view button on any track, you could instantly access all the plugin/synth GUIs associated with that track.
I think this would really add to workflow.

What do you think ?

I agree - this would be cool. In fact, I just added a "More multidocks" feature request in the X5 thread about 5 mins ago.

jeebus,
I just added this thread's idea to the X5 wishlist thread and seconded your idea. I think the number of multi-docks should be limited only by the resources of the PC.

I was also thinking the bakers may not like the channel plugin windows idea since it sort of steps on the prochannel concept.

You mean a multimultidock facility? In otherwords, a megadock™.
In addition I think screensets should be assignable to screens, and you should have a screenset of screensets. In other words a megasceenset™.

I think this is an excellent idea
