Excellent advice, I need to get it together. My UX -1 has four sends listed when I assign track inputs. I will dig deeper to find the proper setup. Thanks again, Ken

I would not personaly use that mixer if you are after a good recording. I am very familiar with those as I was a Yorkville dealer back when it was made in the 90's. The S/N ratio was not great and it was never intended to be used in a studio. They will most likely be a high noise floor. But you could give it a try as in a pinch on a budget it may get the job done
Most important is it is not a good idea to run the mains power amp without a speaker load. Put it in Main A-B mode so you can use the monitor send.
so what you would do is have the system hooked up as a PA  and turn the master all the way down. Don't use the mains output send.

Use the Efx send   at the top (blue knobs) for your left output
Then the Mon send  next down ( green knobs) for your right output
You can pan mikes in the stereo field buy adjusting these. Both up would be centre.

What you also need to know is I'm pretty sure the EQ section ( worthless anyhow) will not effect the monitor send and possibly the EFX send.
The EFX send will be post fader so you will have to turn the Red knob up too.
The Monitor send is pre fader so is independent of the red knob.

All you are doing is accessing some pretty mediocre mike pre amps and running through some basic circuits that are exposed to a hi level of RF interference from the power amp.

For $300 you can buy a Tascam us1800 that has real good pre amps for 8 mikes. For live drums nothing else comes close in price.

There are some complaints with people having driver issues and it's not a super low latency interface.  I've got the older model which is basically the same, and I have no problems at all. Be warned the XP and Vista drivers were the worst so make sure your running w7 64 bit.

Thanks Johnny, the Yorkville was a great live PA for the bar band gigs, I understand what your saying about the hook up procedure. I'm probably not going to use it like I thought, I have it laying around collecting dust so I thought I could utilize it. I also looked into the Tascam and didn't get a positive vibe from the reviews. I wish they were better because its a great option and would give me reason to get a nice rack going.

Are you going to trust reviews. Most reviews of audio interfaces are by first time purchasers. They end up with issues with thier recording system because they have no clue about setting things up properly, so they blame it on the gear.

As I said the drivers for XP and Vista were not very stable for me along with a few others. There are plenty of Sonar users who said they had no problems. But when I switched to W7 64 bit I have everything working fine. The unit itself for the money is very well made.

How about latency? Real time monitoring? I am seriously thinking about one. Witch model? I noticed there are several to choose from.

It is basically the same as my us1641 , it was a front panel face lift and they added better meters.

Round trip latency only bothers you if you monitor AFTER the signal passes through the A/D -computer and the D/A. Each component adds latency. This is only if you wish to use plug ins in real time as you record, like Guitar rig.

But if you monitor at the interface there is no latency.
I have even tested mine to make sure Sonar is correctly adjusting it's offset and it is bang on.

Very few interfaces have super low RTL. I get 7 ms and they say  you need below around 4 to  stop noticing the delay.
They say it's a combination of the circuits and the drivers that effect RTL. You will have to pay over $1000 to find a 16 x 4 interface that gets better RTL.

The Tascam has all the features I need and it's also in a metal box, not plastic like most. Sure the drivers could be better, but all other features are top notch.

Honestly I've only used the line 6 UX-1 for all my recording, it works fine I just need more inputs. As long as its comparable its all good.
