Play5.0 seems to be 64bit only.

Installed it and is working fine.

Hmm... this seems like a really nice update. I don't know if it has been there before (since I rarely leave the Browser) but the performance controls are really nice! Same with the new effects

I know this is an old announcement but it's relatively new to me... and after besmirching EWQL for years,  I'm pretty blown away with the new engine... gamechanger, I do believe... I have been put off by EW for years, largely do to Play issues... instrument load times in particular, not to mention cpu useage...

Play 5... it's a whole different animal.  EWQL must have lost many millions due to Play frustration and I don't know what took them so long.  I'm sure it's a funny/frustrated internal story but,... Play 5 is truly amazing.

Anyone having problems, go to settings and look at what your "sample cache" is set to... it should be 3 for most drives... if it's 0 or 1 that's probably your problem, based on discussions over at VI Control.  Why Kontakt doesn't allow for setting cache for each drive separately I don't know...

Pianos, with several mics use to take minutes to load... now instant... 16 instruments per instance as a saved setup now take maybe 25 seconds, with master keyswitching loads on all... I've tested 48 tracks of orchestrals (I have Symphonic Platinum)/pianos with mult mics and sometimes multi pianos/misc, all tuned to channel 1 and playing them all live and cpu is evenly distributed across all 12 threads and it barely moves! memory management/streaming must also be better as I'm not losing any instruments with 16 per play/4 play instruments all going at once.

All in all, I feel this is a game changer, and it appears even better than Kontakt now, DAW load wise.  I'm reconsidering Hollywood Orchestra now... $500 is a sweet deal

Now I can honestly encourage them to get off their butts and do some more sound design work!

So what do you do if your sample cache doesn't list ANY drives?

Have no idea, Matt... reinstall play?  Probably a good question over on the Play 5 thread at VIC

My Composer Cloud sub expires Christmas Day (bought it last year).  When that happens I'll see if I can get this Sample Cache thing to work by reinstalling.  It's possible I have too many hard drives with Play libraries on them.  Or it might be the fact that a lot of the Composer Cloud is on a network drive (that does have a drive letter mapping).

None of their FAQ advice for this situation helped or changed anything.  All my libraries are in the Favorites list (you can see in the screenshot) and everything works (you can see I loaded several patches).  The fact they have some (bad) advice for this situation means they know it happens.

For a number of years they had a race condition with their iLok usage and iZotope Ozone, which they finally fixed.  I have no doubt that a few years from now this empty Sample Cache list bug will get fixed too.
