I like that change log a lot. That would be a good feature to add in Sonar.

The new feature set looks, at least on the surface, as not terribly exciting.  Two features which many in the Cubase community has been requesting for roughly forever are Bezier curves for automation and MIDI CC lanes and more than six pre-fader plug-in insert slots in the mixer.  Once again, this segment of the community has been totally ignored.

I'm just wondering - any of you that keep current with SONAR releases, can you tell me where SONAR is as far as these features are concerned?

Thanks for the heads up.

I just got my 8 to 8.5 upgrade at the last minute so I can go to 9 when I want.

Thank you.

It's a great update, for me, and gives me the mixer undo that I wanted. There are numerous other workflow enhancements that are nice, too. I didn't think much of the Sampler Track, but after spending all evening with it, it's now part of my workflow. If you're into sound design, it makes things quick and easy when it comes to sample manipulation. Being able to dump your edit into a synth at the touch of a button is icing on the cake. I'm on Win 7, and an older project ended up using less resources and I didn't see the spikes like I used to with Kontakt. Overall, a great buy for a 100.00.

They have really tried to copy the Studio One GUI in many respects but be warned it falls well short in some areas especially the lower zone or mixer dock.  Studio One is way more powerful at showing what is actually in the mixer.

Also Studio One has had the equivalent to the sampler track for years with Sample One.  Any audio event or track can be simply dragged into the sampler and it is immediately mapped to a keyboard and you can play it instantly from a controller.  You have control over envelopes and filters etc.  Just as you would in a sampler.    It is just way faster to get stuff into it that is all. And it sounds perfect too.

Other aspects of Cubase are good for sure.  Many don't like the mixer and still export to other DAW's for those types of duties.  Mixbus comes to mind especially M32C!

Cubase blows S1 out of the water when it comes to MIDI, so it's not even a contest. Just the Logical Editor alone in Cubase sets it apart. Add in Expression Maps when you do orchestral work, and the two couldn't be farther apart. S1 can't even get their automation to work correctly, and the Project section of the program hasn't been updated in forever, which is the only reason I still own it. The S1 incompatibility with ilok/softube, etc... I could go on. The complaint with Sample One is the same complaint everyone has with S1. It uses too many resources. I can load Slate plugs that take 1 to 1.5 % in either Cubase or Reaper, and they take 5% in S1. In every stress test, S1 comes out with the lowest performance.

Just a sample :

Then again, does it matter what I say? You seem to follow me from thread to thread either here on the Sonar forum or the S1 forum. If you want to talk ****, do it to someone else.

I have both S1 and Cubase (been using since the Atari days) and maybe it's my familiarity with Cubase but I haven't found anything particularly more appealing with S1. Agree MIDI is no contest. The lack of a drum editor and real drum maps keeps me from using S1 for anything more than testing.

It does depend on what DAW's you like working in and they all appeal on some level.  It is interesting though how Cubase has taken a very definite Studio One like direction.  Granted Cubase has extended midi functions but many also do not know the full extent of what S1's midi capabilities are either.  You have to use it all the time.  I use a pretty decent hardware setup as well as software and it handles all that rather well.  It is also very stable now too.

I have never noticed CPU usage with Sample One really.  It is more about getting the job done I guess.  It is still very handy and easy to drag things in play around with.

Cubase would be good though if you are using a Steinberg midi interface. It allows all the LTB stuff where midi timing is very accurate and on each port very tight. I assume Cubase 9 still offers this.   Some still say the mixer could be better overall.  I must admit how good Mixbus is in this role.

It is only time before S1 offers mixer undo or history. They will just implement it in a nicer way perhaps.  I have not missed it too much personally.  The version saving concept is very good for saving and recalling mixer scenes.
