twaddle
I'm trying to make a track to go with a video that's a mixture of three complete songs.

I've loaded the three songs in to separate tracks and am trying to find good points to fade them in and out.
Using track envelopes I would have thought this would be easy but it's driving me up the wall.
I want to use different parts of each song coming in at different points in an attempt to make it seem as seamless as possible but once I have a track envelope inserted how do I stop the envelope from moving when I move parts of the track to try and line them up ?

Why does the envelop have to move ?

Surely there is a way to move clips about on the time line without the envelopes following their every move ?

Can this only be done with clip envelopes perhaps ?

In which case I'm going to have to lose the last hours work and start again.

Cheers

Move the envelops to buses

I really need to be able to visually line them up where I have split the tracks and buses just makes that even harder.

I actually doing much better so far without envelopes and just splitting the tracks in to clips and dragging the corners
of each clip to create fades.

Still seems absurd to me that there isn't a way of keeping the envelopes in place while moving clips along the time line.

I agree. this is so frustrating. Every time I cut/paste a track or clip, the envelope stops/starts at the cut points.
The whole envelope everything is so completely broken. I liked it better in like Sonar 8.5

The envelope stays in place for me just fine. It only moves if I have the automation lane selected (which, granted, happens automatically if you select the whole track, but not if you select the clip). Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the problem?

EDIT: I'm not seeing that problem with copy/paste either by the way. Just select the clip, not the track. It's equally possible to copy/paste just the automation and not the clip by selecting the automation and not the clip. You just can't drag copy/move the automation as far as I know.

See if this helps: From the Track view choose Options > Select Track Envelopes With Selected Clips.

That sounds like it's the defining option to explain the different behaviors we're seeing :)

+1 for Nudge...

If you have a keyboard with a 10key pad you can use the numbers like 1 and 3 for minor nudge, 4 and 6 for medium nudge and 7 and 9 for big nudge.

Holding down the key will nudge on auto-repeat so it will slide the clip left or right in the timeline as you like.
