I have my doubts about the suitability of this particular model for outdoor use. I'm guessing you'll have to pay big for one rugged enough to stand up to the weather in Florida. In fact, you're probably better off renting them from ADT, if that's an option.

At one point I considered building a kind of bird-feeder-like box for it, a glass enclosure that would protect it from the elements. But I read on the Foscam forum that you can't put this camera behind glass because the IR reflects off it and screws with the image.

I would like to install one or two cameras around the house and one to cover the driveway. Maybe when those lottery investments begin to pay off...

I ordered one and it arrived today.  I spent a few minutes to set it up and view on my home network. Like a breeze.

Next was get the android app (IP Cam Viewer Lite.. it's free)  and install it on the droid.... that went smooth as well... So I can control and view from my desk or anywhere in the house.  Next step is to go out of my router's range and turn on the droid network and see if it still views or if I will need to do new settings for that.

I am hardwired to a switch in the office/studio.

Dave... I don't think this model is weatherproof... with the open port on the back side and all....  you can set it inside the house looking out a window. I think the droid viewer handles up to 4 cams in the free version and unlimited in the paid version....

Oh yeah.... I got the black one... it was a few bucks cheaper and setting on the shelf in front of my black Epson printer... it's very hard to see.

Hey Dave,
THANKS for the info on your camera project!!!

I have recently developed a neighborhood concern and was looking at what to do to help the community out.

Ive been working with the county narcotics unit and the city on this and your project will greatly help my cause out

We have already shut down one house that was bought by an out of state guys just to grow dope and manufacture Meth in.  He only lasted long enough to get everything setup and making it before we hooked him up, the house now belong to the city.  The house next to that one is ahead of track as far as what this guy was doing but we are still working on that one.

Sad this is what the economy has done to our neighborhoods but unless we get involved it will continue and be a growing problem.

Im now putting cameras up for who ever needs to tie in to monitor the questionable things that are going on.

Thanks again for the info you posted throughout your thread here, its a big help to us

I was also gonna mention out of past experience, if there is external access to your attic space, make sure ti cover the ceiling area of your studio with plywood or something to keep them from jumping down through the drywall/sheet rock.  Ive seen it done and they know how simple it is to do.

Just a thought that hit me with all you have already done.

Yup, I have closed off all horizontal access to the attic with half-inch plywood. I didn't want to put plywood over the ceiling joists directly, because that space serves as a giant bass trap. My ceiling is pegboard (it was a bugger to install but looks good) with 20 inches of batting atop. The calculated 70Hz resonance I'd been expecting to be a problem turned out to be a very minor issue; the yet-to-be-installed corner traps should take care of it easily.

There was a funny store a while back in the local paper.

This guy ( lives in a rural area) finds a fancy looking camera out by the entrance to his driveway. He takes the SD card out and finds pictures of his friends and family coming and going, not only that, there were lots of other pictures of police business, crime scenes, accidents and things he would not mention. He contacted the newspaper first because he was not only outraged about his privacy by the fact that they had left very sensitive photos laying about for anyone to see.

The police where very embarrassed and mumbles something about lack of training and cutbacks so no one understood how to erase the SD cards. I think they worked things out. But that's one grow op owner they will leave be for now. ( we all read this into the story on a hunch)

So just be careful what you tape is not counter to privacy laws

Security staff at our local Indian casino got caught passing around a greatest-hits tape from security camera footage. You wouldn't believe what drunks do on the hoods of cars in the parking lot. Sometimes it's not even their own cars.
