I like me a good film.  I'll start with a few;

Ink and The Frame by Jamin Winans

Kubo and the Two Strings, by the same company which made Coraline and Paranorman, which are also both excellent.

Kubo is a strong candidate for my favourite film of 2017 (that I've watched) and we're not out of January yet :-)

Any other suggestions?

I like me a good film.

Me too! A few of my favourites from recent years.

'Still Life' with Eddie Marsan, one of favourite character actors. A very quiet, slow, deeply moving film.

'In Order of Disappearance', very black Norwegian comedy about a snow plough driver taking revenge on the drug baron who killed his son

'Wild Bill' guy gets out of prison to find his 2 sons living alone in a flat. Best 'showdown in a pub' ending, ever. Also discovered solo music from Mark Hollis of Talk Talk from the soundtrack.

'Bone Tomahawk' - horror-western, quite Tarantino-esque.

Will edit to add more when I remember them.

If you haven't dived into Asian cinema yet, there is a wealth of good stuff out there.

The Chinese historical epics (e.g. Red Cliff), are a bit of an acquired taste, as reading subtitles while keeping track of large casts and intricate plots can be challenging. But the Chinese are also adept at period action comedies. I'd recommend "The Good the Bad and the Weird", "A Girl, A Gun and a Noodle Shop", and "The Great Magician". There have been many more but I can't think of them of the top of my head.

Casshern.  If you haven't watched Casshern, watch Casshern.  Bonkers live action manga, flawed certainly but unique and amazing, like branston pickle.

Couldn,t agree more !

Don't forget the Detective Dee trilogy - comedy, action, mystery a la chinoise. Great watching.

Cheers,

And some Japanese as well. Their humor is not the same as ours and sometimes it is making fun of the other TV's around the world.

Juzo Itami had an endless bunch of funny films. The "Taxing Woman" (she collects back taxes), and both films are very good, and funny, and get crazy.

In general, almost everything that shows up here in Portland at the Film Festival, is way too serious and not as much fun. I don't recall a funny one in at least 10 years, or I missed it!

'Song of The Sea' - I love good animation, and this is one of the best of recent years.

Yup, brilliant.  As is Tomm Moore's first film, The Secret of Kells.
