I remember back in the Sonar 8 days that if I remember correctly Dimension had a bank of sound effects. I may be mistaken. I know DSF makes an FX expansion pack of the such called Hollywood FX. I know I didn't by that but I'm wondering if by chance anything like that was included in any previous versions of Sonar. It's been a while and might not even be a Dimension Pro product at all. I just remember using it in something. Since getting X1 I've never come across those sounds and would like to find them. Thanks for any ideas!

TTS-1 has some pretty decent sound effects, I think that's what you are thinking of. I don't ever remember Dim Pro having sound effects.

There's also a lot of free ones out there.

I've been trying to find a clean decent Werewolf howl for years. If you find a good sample for free, please post a link. :)

I believe you're referring to Hollywood Edge FX which is a free Cakewalk sample library included with Dimension Pro.
There are only a few samples included (Guns, Cannons, Insects, Frogs, Rain, Thunder)

You may try opening the browser in Dimension, hit F5, and see if it finds it.

Ah, yes I think you are right. I'll check it out. So, from going to youtube and typing in werewolf howls I've sound a few that are OK. Have you done that? Reason why is because if you find one there you like you can go to this address and snag the mp3 version of it and toss it into a sampler (or just import it into a project) http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ you could actually do it for any youtube content. Thanks for the help and if I find a werewolf wolf howl I think kicks ass, I'll let ya know.

Yep, that's exactly what it is. We'll for one thing I have the E-Mu Proteus Pack from DSF that I used with Sonar 8. Then I tried to install that into the same directory where of course everything else is but I can't even find where the actual D-Pro library resides to put the files. Aparently just loading the disc doesn't put them in the correct location. And, I tried to do what I was told but it's still not correct. Although I can browse to where they are (the proteus pack that is), I don't know where they should be so they appear in the browser along with the factory D-Pro content. I can't find where the factory content is to put the expansion packs. Support said something about a sample pool and this and that but I don't understand what they are telling me. ("just blow your nose and it's fixed!")-Brazil 1985 That's been a huge pain. But, NO! when I hit F5 there is no magic. All I have is programs 1 - 25 and 3 expansion packs at the end. Nothing else. But yes, those are the FX in mention and I'd like to have them back. sniff sniff. I have all my Sonar 8 content updates and this and that. But, I wouldn't know if it's on there or bundled up in something else. I don't remember if it was a part of a previous D-Pro installation or an add on.

I'm not sure what your process was here, or what the coded installation process was for the Proteus Pack.  I have that expansion pack installer here somewhere, and I'll try looking into that.  32 vs. 64 bit may be the problem.

Support said something about a sample pool and this and that

The Sample Pool folder is the location where DP looks to first before scanning the the other multisample folders.  It's a neat trick for loading samples on a temporary basis.  I wouldn't call it good housekeeping for a permanent installation.

But, NO! when I hit F5 there is no magic.

The following process will work, but assumes that all of your .prog files are in a place where they can be 'read'.  If necessary, enable hidden file viewing for your system.  Search for the program.lst files.  Locate the one for Dimension Pro, and delete it.  (Careful: There's a programs.lst file for many Cakewalk synths.)  It will be regenerated the next time that you open the DP Browser.

The programs.lst file contains what you'll see listed in the Browser.  This process forces a 'hard' rescan.

catydids or cicadas? I'm not sure catydids make much noise but cicadas, the ones that spend 17 years underground. They make all sorts of noise. I was actually looking for some good thunderstorm sounds and is the reason why I posted this in the first place. But, as an alternative if you search for what you are looking for on youtube. Granted, I'm looking for more dramatic thunder rain and wind but there is some usable stuff out there. Here is some cicadas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez7bPjSJGc8 it's funny too. Here is a converter http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

Hollywood Edge FX

I bought a CD with this title about 15 years ago.(still use it)  If you search out some used CD stores, probably find a copy for a couple bucks.
