  • SONAR X3 Crashed: How can import audio files that were lost from track view?

In SONAR X3,  I had recorded multiple guitar fills and then the program crashed.
The audio files except maybe 1 are intact in the 'Audio' folder.  How can I move them back into the project while retaining thier original time stamps?   I tried using 'import' but they just appear where ever the cursor happens to be.

From the Help File:

If you want SONAR to import Wave files always at their timestamped location, go to Edit > Preferences > File - Audio Data and select the Always Import Waves At Their Timestamp check box. Otherwise, set the Now Time and current track to indicate where the audio should be placed.

Thanks for the info.   These files were multiple short punch ins scattered throughout the song and figuring out where they should go would be difficult and lining up the precise time would be guesswork.  I will try the Edit>Preferences... option you suggested.

Awesome.. I had the same issue and wasn't aware of that preference setting.  Thanks Jonesy.

Unfortunately those files won't have a broadcast timestamp embedded - SONAR only adds this as an option on export. They'll have to be located manually. Also be aware that SONAR's record latency compensation is non-destructive - the latency remains part of the file until you bounce/export it - so you'll also need to manually apply whatever record latency was in effect at the time the files were recorded.

Steve I've just been doing a bit of research and came to exactly the same conclusion and was going to post the same thing but you beat me to it!

You mean about the non-destructive latency compensation? Yeah, I just ran into that a while ago myself. I think I new it once but had forgotten at some point.

So, as a precaution a person could export all the audio files of a project using the "Export Broadcast Waves By Default", then in the event of a loss, they could be imported to the original time stamp?   This still wouldn't help when recovering from a program crash as I wouldn't have had a chance to export the newer files anyway.

Enabling autosave and versioning in Preferences > File > Advanced can help with recovery. Advanced options are shown when the Advanced radio button at the bottom of the Preference dialog is selected.

I'm afraid the best solution is to be in the habit of hitting the "save" button after each successful take or after around 10 minutes of editing.
While editing you could enable the "auto save" feature  as well.  I didn't like using the auto save function in Producer 8.5 while tracking as I had my audio engine cut out  from this, but that might be different now. So I still keep my manual saving habits.
Also while were on the topic you will also be better off to perform a "save as" before closing down the project.  Point the file to your back up drive.
