  • Cakewalk.com DNS issue [seems permanently resolved now!]

Hi, I'm no IT guy so excuse the title if it's wrong but I seem to have an issue reaching Cakewalk Forums and even Cakewalk.com

When I try on my iPad and laptop, I get a page filled with ads, looking like one of those webhosting offer sites (register this domain name now etc).

Strangely, I had the page still open on my phone and it's working fine there. I was able to post a reply, refresh the page and make this thread. They're all three on the same network (in The Netherlands btw). That leads me to think Cakewalk.com changed IP and didn't register properly at the DNS, or something. Again, more a persistent googler/DIYer than an IT guy.

It would be pointless to ask if others were having troubles because they wouldn't be able to post replies if they did. So I'm basically hoping the bakers might see this and flick a switch somewhere...

add the www and see if that makes a difference. There may also be some adware involved.

Aaaaaaand now it's back, with no change on my part.
I thought of adware (even though I usually know how to avoid it), but my iPad did the exact same thing.

Anyway, I'll mark the thread solved. Sorry for the fuss.

Yeah Sander,

I was having trouble this morning at home. Cake is wrestling with some thing weird, ganing control and loosing it...we'll see who wins!

Now it seems to be Cake on top, at least at this moment so I can post this.

I've been have this problem too and saw posts on the 'home recording' forum asking if the domain name had been stolen so realised others were also experiencing problems.   Basically any search on 'cakewalk' or attempt to access any part of the www.cakewalk site was being redirected to a domain name seller, and images wouldn't show in emails from CW.

I tried ringing CW customer services to see if there was an acknowledged problem but it was closed.

EDIT - still happening if I put www.cakewalk.com  in the url line.

Yeah it's being weird again /sigh.
I'll change the thread title again, haha
At least it's not just me, thanks guys!

I hate these spam dudes and their ilk. I honestly wonder if anyone actually ever clicks on their ads and buys anything.

Hi Guys,

Our DNS went down for about 20 mins this morning. It should resolve itself as the update spreads worldwide. Sounds like some of you are experiencing the after effects of it. This isn't related to any malware or spammers.

As a troubleshooting step in the meantime, if you want to flush your DNS cache you can run the following in Command Prompt:

ipconfig -flushdns

Sorry for the trouble guys.

That was me on the home recording forum, trying to find out if I was the only one affected.  I sent an email to the Gibson.com webmaster too, (just in case they didn't know what was going on either...)

Thanks for the confirmation Ryan! Good to know you guys are aware of the issue at least.
I tried flushing my dns before already (should've said that) and just did it again, no effect.

I didn't take into account it would take time for worldwide DNSs to incorporate the new location. Hope it will fix itself soon then! Kinda puzzled my phone has no issues.
