• SONAR
  • Slide not working as expected for midi events - X3 (p.2)

On a new midi project, the only thing that is selected for the timeline range start/End is the SPP now time for each.

It was a common complaint in X1 that double-clicking to open the PRV would leave all the events selected, but it didn't select anything before the start of the clip. That issue was addressed in X2 or X2a, leaving nothing selected after double-clicking a clip and that behavior persists in X3 for me.

I actually liked the behavior in X1 because if I want to deselect the events I just need to click the blank area inside the notes pane, but in X3 if I want to select all events in the clip I need to hide the MultiDock and single-click the clip and then show the MultiDock again, or lasso-select all the events.

This seems to be an issue of importing older projects into X3. I haven't checked X1 or X2 with all of these WRK files.

I am getting pushback from support with workarounds. I don't want a workaround, I would like to have a defect created since importing these files causes SONAR not to work as advertised. I would rather have this fixed.

I just tried this with a NEW project:

1.       Open new project with one midi track
2.       Open PRV for midi track and enter several midi events after 1:03:000
3.       Close PRV - At this point you have a midi clip that starts at 1:03:000 or later
4.       Set now time to measure 7
5.       Single Click on midi clip - this sets the selection time correctly
6.       Double click the midi clip

At this point, PRV comes up and the selection beginning time switches to the now time pointer which is nowhere near the clip beginning time as was intended and set earlier...

This looks to be a defect to me. If someone can explain how this would be expected behavior, I am all ears.

The Now time and selection boundaries are independent. The PRV opens with the previous selected clip roughly centered in the view. The Now time will stay wherever it is. Nothing should be selected at that point, and whenever everything is de-selected, the From and Thru time default to wherever the Now time is. You can't re-enable a previous selection without defining a new From and Thru time, so I don't see that this is a problem...?

ok, that makes sense looking at it that way.

This is what I found though - I see when I do a right click on the selected midi clip and choose the PRV as the view, ALT+3 alternate, the selection beginning and end persist when PRV is opened.

I expected that the double click would emulate the ALT+3.

Alt+3 opens the PRV at the Now time, independent of any selection, while double-clicking is asking SONAR to show a specific selection in the PRV. This gives you two options, depending on what your goal is (e.g. view/edit an existing clip or add new events at the Now time).

I see that now, maybe an option during double click to keep time and track selection then. That would do what I expected it to.

time to just roll with the punches I guess..  :)
