With respect a screenshot would have helped us find out what the issue is, that is why I requested it...

...Windows 7 saw the drive fine so that wouldn't have helped...

A screenshot of Disk Management would show us useful info, including an overview of your drive system.  It's not just about whether one particular drive is visible.

Anyway I'm glad you got it sorted.

Backup the data on the project disk (or copy to the new 1TB drive), delete partitions in XP (or Windows 7 if you have to) then recreate a basic NTFS partition in XP.

I believe he's already beyond that.

I can't work like that.  I like a big screen (or maybe two).

Are you sure you're on XP pro?  If you're on XP pro you should just be able to import the disk.  XP home edition cannot import foreign disks, you will have to convert it to basic.  Foreign disk status happens when you import a dynamic disk from another Windows OS.

If you've confirmed you're on Pro and you can't select "import foreign disk" then there's probably some corruption in the OS.

Probably the easiest thing is to back up your data and convert to basic disk.  You only need Dynamic disks if you're going to run some type of software RAID.

We still don't know what the OP issue was (Windows 7 would have reported it not XP).
My hunch was he was using a partition format not compatible with XP. Anyway point is moot now, he's resolved it appears (please mark post as answered).

Yes gentlemen.  I am running xp pro.  maybe something was/is corrupt with the install.  I dunno.  it seems to work fine otherwise.   I am probably only going to keep xp until I get up to speed on sonar X2/X3.  (have been running 8.3)
After doing what I described above all is well.  Learn something new every day with computers.  Thanks again to everyone who helped and tried to help!!  Much appreciated!! I will mark as answered
