When I saw the title, I assumed it was a parody thread.

I wonder if it's even a legit copy.

Getting a bit paranoid Craig. Not everyone from Russia is a pirate. Most, but not all. Let's see how this plays out.

I didn't say it wasn't a legit copy. I said I wonder, because unusual and consistent crashes are often the sign of a crack. It's also possible to buy a pirated copy that looks legit but isn't, although I haven't seen this happen before with Sonar...it's mostly an issue with Adobe and Microsoft products, where even the packaging looks perfect.

I have a friend that visits China every couple of years. He has some stories to tell. Disney stuff over there is ALL pirated as is most of the software you buy. He tells me there's no way to tell it's fake.

Gibson also suffers from this issue. I was at my friends guitar shop and he asked me to look at a Les Paul. I look it over and some things are not right, even though it had all the correct stamping for dates and a Custom Shop decal. I knew it was no where near the quality of my goldtop but the stamping and decals threw me off. Some guy bought it online for $300.

This is indeed a major problem, especially when someone then posts online about how Gibson's quality has gone to hell. There are massive numbers of counterfeit Les Pauls out there.

A good guitar is still a good guitar, and a bad one is still a bad one.

There is also a magnificent Gibson shop in Shanghai (in the French quarter of town) which sells the real deal. Then again go to Jinling Street and you can get whatever you want for whatever your purse holds.

But not all items are counterfeit in China, at least in my business, I go there every month.

Just saying'

I have had a legit copy of Cakewalk's products since Cakewalk for dos (didn't midi on a PC seem spectacular:)......but surely all of you people talking about dodgy cracked versions of Sonar realise there is no such thing! They dont have to crack it because it has no copy protection to speak of - just a serial number. It is one of the reasons it is so much more stable then Cubase with its iLok protection bogging down the code. If the guy is having a problem - legit software or not - it surely isn't the crack causing it in Sonar.

I wonder if it is an install issue - are you saying you have X3c and X3d installed concurrently?

Of course not. After X3d became crash I restored the OS from the image.
Your situation seems like the patch file you have was not downloaded (or possibly installed) correctly. The first thing I would recommend is re-downloading the X3d patch and reapplying it (right click and run as administrator). Be sure the patch you use is for the version you have.

OK, thanks, I'll try.
I personally use a program called "FastSum"...

OK, thanks, will try it too.
I wonder if it's even a legit copy.

I have all the licenses Sonar, starting with version 6 and up to X3.
Not everyone from Russia is a pirate.

Yes, it is.

Again, Run As Administrator, if I understood it correctly.

Bakers, IF Run As Administrator really does work better or is needed for installation, if it is not somewhere really big and bold in the instructions, could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put this in a sticky thread or within the install instructions with a GIANT font?

This issue keeps coming up over and over again.

Thanks,

Bob Bone

I find this a little weird. If a installation is not successful because it does not have the right permissions to install whatever file or registry entry it is.... it should not complete. It is writing to the wrong area of the registry for some reason just because of permissions then it is a bug (I don't see this to be likely either).
