Hello everyone,

Been trying to free up some more memory on my laptop and was wondering if there's a way I can uninstall Sonar X2 Producer but keep all the bundled content and plugins for use in X3 Producer? Is it just a case of doing a custom uninstall? or uninstalling, then reinstalling just the plugins and content?

Thanks

Liam

The actual program doesn't take much space, if you're that low on space, you may need to rethink and get a bigger hard drive.

Uninstalling X2 will not free up memory. X2 doesn't use Ram when its not being ran and your not running it at the same time you are running X3, so it will not free up any Ram.

If you need more Ram, you need to insert more ram into your PC

Isn't the only difference in content (other than new content with X3) is that X3 doesn't have R-mix?  If so you should be able to uninstall X2, do a custom install and only select R-mix.  Just don't accept the default install and you can go in and check off what content you want loaded.

More than R-Mix as dropped from X3. V-Vocal was dropped and does not have an advanced install option. In order to install V-Vocal, the SONAR X2 program must be installed. The VC-64 was also dropped and can be reinstalled with the advanced install option. There may be other plug-ins dropped but these are the only ones I am sure are not in X3.

With the exception of the demo/tutorial projects, removal of the parts of X2 Producer that are not shared with X3 would recover about 200MB of disk space.

200MB isn't all that much, maybe you need to look at moving some of the Cakewalk Projects off your C: Drive onto maybe an alternate drive or USB External drive...  That is if you do have a second drive on your system, if that being the case, you might want to also look at moving the Cakewalk Content folder to the other drive if that is at all possible..  Cakewalk Content on my C: drive is just over 11.5GB...

I don't mean to push in on your thread - I've been also meaning to move some of the data that is used by Cakewalk to another drive, not for the purpose of freeing up disk space though but to better use SSD Drive technology to speed up things...

There are some directories that have sh!t loads of content and can take a couple of seconds to load - I was thinking to move the Cakewalk Content to SSD drive to help speed up the search and opening of the content - is it as simple as copying it to the SSD drive and then changing the drive letter in the Preferences? Has anyone tried this before? I'd hate to lose everything if it wasn't done properly
