  • Going from two monitors to one...

I am debating on going from my current setup with TWO screens/monitors on my DAW to having one LARGER screen.. and the question I can't find an answer to is.. if I currently have Sonar projects saved using BOTH screens.. would going to ONE screen prevent me from accessing information or project data.. If I keep my "plugins" on the 2nd screen.. when i open the project later on ONE screen.. would I be able to access that plugin?? Or will it be beyond reach?

Any suggestions besides going back to all my projects and consolidating the screens to one side and then resaving? Is it possible to do with screensets? or will Sonar just "layer" all the open windows on the one screen when opened?

Thanks

There is no problem going back to a single screen.

I have 2 display monitors, and if I am playing Black Ops 2 on the one, Sonar still works fine moving to a single display, and it will work with 2 displays when I switch the Black Ops 2 display back to Sonar.

it's no problem to go from 2 monitors to one ... I do it often .... home work on two monitors and when I take the laptop to another location working with one ...

Your plugins will just spawn on your one screen. Pretty sure this is actually managed on the OS level.

If I went back to one screen, it would have to be a larger screen with great resolution. I tried going to a 32" HD TV monitor and did not like it because the fonts and such were very large and the desktop was too small. I would like to have the dual monitor desktop grow in perspective on the larger screen to give me the same desktop size as a dual monitor setup, but with a larger singl screen. I don't think the tech is up for that yet at a reasonable price. :)
My friend uses a single 32" HD screen for his system and I find it cumbersome because I am not used to the shortened desktop. I find myself always wanting to stretch out the GUI, but can't.

I use  dual 22" screens side by side and I am ok with it.

I have two 19"s and a 24". I will move back to one screen when I can get a 32"+ 4K monitor that has 60hz refresh for $600 or less. Next year?

Thanks everyone for the help!! I appreciate it greatly!! Guitarmech... it's funny you say that.. I was thinking of going to try a 32 in HD TV monitor setup to replace my dual 24'' LCDs on my DAW.. based on your findings.. I may have to wait a little longer before getting that 32 inch..

Thanks!

I am never really happy working on a single screen.  I do it when I am tinkering with simple stuff, but for real work in Sonar, I MUCH prefer having the 2nd display.

It's just so nice to have the ability to have things split across the 2 screens.

I would have a rough time changing from my current 3 monitors.  I like having 1 for the mixer, 1 for the waveforms and 1 for the browser.  I think I would need a pretty large monitor with high resolution to be able to work at my current speed.
