Hi Gang...

I was working on this song and after finishing recording some reference vocals, I got a general error and couldn't save it, so I tinkered a bit until it finally allowed me to save it...

I closed it and now when I try to open it Sonar crashes...

I tried opening it without any plugins (shift open), but it crashed anyway...

Can anyone tell me of something I might try? As a last resort I do have a backup prior to doing these vocals and can try to re-construct... But the vocals were done in far too many little pieces to create the song, so I will have to re-do them again...

Not looking forward to this.... why do I keep getting these General Errors when saving... I guess I'll now try increasing buffer sizes next time it happens....

Sadly...

Keni,
My experience with the 'General Error' is this...
When you go to save a project and you get that error, start playback and then stop and try to save again.

This has worked for me every time. Something confuses x3 when it can't access the disc " disc has gone to sleep" or if the audio engine stopped "dropout" and you initiate a save. Curiously, the reason for the error is not consistent but the play back workaround has been for me.

Of course, if you try to save and it's interrupted, the project can become corrupt and I hav'nt found a workaround for that unfortunately. Hopefully you have a previous auto save you can open ( even though that seems to cause its own issues ) it has saved me in the past.

Hope his helps some

What happens if you create a brand new project folder, then go into the original project folder - outside of Sonar - and copy/paste everything into the new project folder?  (I also suggest renaming the new copy of the project file to match the name of the new project folder, so that it is in sync with the new folder and not with the old one).

I doubt the above will work, but is easy enough to try, and maybe it will somehow fix something.

Sorry this has occurred for you - it seems to pop up now and then for folks, and I have yet to see any solution (that I can recall).

Thanks Gang...

I do not use auto save, but I do constant saves and backups... Sadly this time I had no backup with the reference vocals, but had an intact copy without them, so I opened it and quickly did sloppy (ER) renditions to capture the ideas... Saving and backing up of course... So I'm ok and ready to tackle the actual vocals today/tomorrow...

I could not do a rebuild with any practicality as the vocals were recorded in small bits and there were 4 tracks of them it have number of VV edits as well...

Next time I experience the general error, I will try featherlight's suggestion and see if it gets around the general error... I don't know why this has suddenly become an issue as I have changed nothing. At first I only encountered this with songs started in 8.5, but this current song was started in X3c....

Thanks again for helping... Bob... Featherlight...
