Tonight out of boredom I decided to check out this browser extension which is being promoted aggressively of late. It claims to correct your grammar as you type - a sort of spell check with wings. I don't think I have bad grammar, although I do tend to make mistakes when I'm in a hurry.

Anyway after a few hours of using it I decided that it was actually a crock - the free version isn't that helpful, it's giving you this constant visual feedback as you type which is incredibly annoying (probably to everyone over the age of 35 at least), and worst of all I found that it would randomly move your cursor in certain circumstances, like when I was moving around the text with the cursor to make edits. It couldn't be more intrusive. Plus, as far as I know it's sending what you type to their servers, which feels like a huge privacy issue to me.

What made me laugh was when I headed over to the Chrome store to read the reviews. I wanted to see if anyone else was as irritated by it as me. To my surprise it got rave reviews - but hilariously enough, a huge number of these rave reviews were written with atrocious spelling, grammar and punctuation. You cannot make this stuff up

You don't need it, we'll let you know when you've written something incorrectly.

Hi,

Bad English? Is that a new band of some sort?

My sentence structure, if you have not noticed, tends to follow the Latin structures quite a bit, and is one of the reasons why some folks don't like reading it ... it requires some more attention to find out what is being said.

It's the usual problem with various languages.

As far as writing, the grammar thing on W10 on my computer, doesn't seem to mind me much, although it does not like ... a whole lot, however, I have not found a good way to use thinking pauses in writing, as they are done in theater and film scripts, for example.

I get it Bapu ... it's always nice and easy to see when folks want to be mean, instead of fun!

I don't want to auto correct anything. How are you supposed to learn if you don't know you're making mistakes?
