I have a laptop that I use for tracking only...maybe some noise gate used when tracking drums.

I have an new Purrrfect Audio Desktop for mixing/mastering in a separate room (love it).

Here is my question.

My laptop has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, which is a T9300 2.5Ghz 2 Core 2 Logical Processor CPU. I recently upgraded Bios and basically went thru the entire laptop on this forum to get it to run great (for tracking) when using Sonar 7PE and a TI chipset Firewire Cardbus.

I would love to run X3d on this. But the min/req. state 2.67GHz. I just dread what to expect...I am sure it would not work.

What are your thoughts?

What is the worst that can happen? Load it up, you might be pleasantly surprised.

FWIW, I've been running X3 (and X2/X1 before) on a Q9300 (2.5 GHz) with Win7 x64 SP1 as my only DAW.   Works just fine with audio,FX, synths, etc, etc.

You could throw the X2 demo on it and see what happens

I have an older laptop that is almost identical, but even slower (2.2 mhz), and I am running X3 pretty well.  I don't do large projects - maybe a dozen tracks, and not a lot of effects or massive synth setups, but I am completing my projects successfully.

Give it a go.  As Scook said, what's the worst that could happen?  There's always uninstall...

Yes, I think I will, just for fun, if not anything else.

I have updated the BIOS and all other drivers on the machine, so all I really need to do is an uninstall of anything on the machine and a little clean up.

Then, I will load Win7x64 over the top of the already loaded Win7x32.

Then, I will load X3d.

Worst case...reinstall Win7x32 and reinstall X3d, or just go back to Sonar 7 PE.

All I need it for is tracking, with some gating on the drums...no more than 16 tracks at once...if that.

After all is tracked. I move the files to an external HD and move into another part of the house and use my new "Purrrfect Audio" machine with X3d loaded and ready to go.

Thanks.

Have not loaded X3d on this 64Bit machine yet, as 7PE is working so well.

Not sure there is much advantage at this point.

Gating does not work when tracking...hmmmm?

Oh well.

Gating does not work when tracking...hmmmm?

Are you trying to use a plugin for gating?
Plugins will not be processed when recording, use them afterwards when mixing.

I would give it a try first to see how it's running on your system:
http://www.cakewalk.com/products/sonar/web-trial.aspx

You can even downloaded the trial of Melodyne, that will run inside our SONAR X3 Trial:
