I'm looking into my crystal ball...I see...I see a clock...there it is!

Sonar X3e will appear at 11:50:30 AM.

What? You want the date too? Jeez. You people are never satisfied.

Golly Craig,  Why all the mystery in delaying the release for one hour from 10:50:30?  Tell us the real reasons please.

It's true, there will be a SONAR X3e. It's coming in mid to late March.

Thank you very much Andrew. Glad you chimed in.
You do mean 2014 I hope.

Oh I can't commit to a year :)

Andrew has been learning from IK...

Hopefully they dont start working like IK. You would have to empty the SEPTIC TANK (V3) every week.

Wow!

Thanks Extra Special for That Andrew...

We hardly ever get much advanced notice... Please note that I totally understand if circumstances make a dely, but it's really nice to have a target range for expectations...

Thanks again!

I love Sonar and this forum.

I have learned so much from all of you and I thank you.

I hope to be able to help someone in the future as you have all helped me.

I know this will draw flames, but don't kid yourself into believing that Cakewalk will release free fixes for any version before going on to the next paid upgrade.  I've been using Cakewalk software since before Sonar (Pro Audio), and more often than not they do not fix the current release before moving on to the next paid upgrade.  After getting burned on X2a, I haven't yet upgraded to X3.  I probably will eventually, but I'm still checking this forum to see if they resolve all the issues before spending even more money on a program that is not functioning properly.  Over the years I've supported this company with plenty of money, and the way they left X2a unfinished really disappointed me.

aspenleaf,

If, as you say, you been involved with Cakewalk like forever then it should be easy to see that:

a) X2a was under Roland control
b) X3 has had 4 patches so far (and another on the way) since Roland has departed

Many like you are bitter over X2a. It's somewhat understandable, especially on limited budgets. But IMO Cake is back to being on the forums and delivering patches that fix bugs. That alone tells me that I'm sticking with them as my main DAW (and yes I do own three other DAWs).

Your "not functioning properly" comment is extremely vague to me. Does SONAR simply not boot? Can you not record audio? Can you not record MIDI? Does MIDI not drive your VSTi? Can you not insert VSTs in FX-Chain or FX-Bin? Can you not export a song? What exactly is not functioning properly?

Now if you said that SONAR has limitations to YOUR workflow I can understand that. Not everyone uses SOANR the same way. I don't comp. I record a track. If something is wrong I punch it in or record the track over. Maybe that is my carryover from my tape & ADAT days but it works properly for me. I can move audio and MIDI clips where I want them. I do experience an occasional crash but with aAuto-save on I've almost never lost much (if any) work.

I have properly recorded and completed projects in X1, X2 and now X3d, pretty much like I did in 8.x, 7 and 6 etc.

Bear in mind I'm a hobbyist, not a for hire studio and so any inconvenience I experience is never in front of a client.

I agree, the single "a" update for X2 was pretty pathetic and had me questioning my loyalty to Cakewalk. But, I have to admit the X3 release has been a breath of fresh air. I kinda think the influence of Gibson and Craig Anderton has helped guide the SONAR team to get re-focused on things (like timely bug fixes, more frequent updates, increased interaction on the forums) that really matter to the end user base. Looking forward to the next "e" update.

Cheers,
