I second the 60 cycle hum that strats omit.
they need to be moved around just right to hit the silent zone at times.
keep in mind, Hendrix, Clapton, Beck weren't recording in front of a CPU monitor ;-)
IMO that's what really lites it up.
only an opinion but also something to think about

Charlie, you make a good point about the CPU monitor.  I had problems with my Strat when I used a CPU monitor, but flatscreen LCD's have solved that problem year ago.   Strats aren't that problematical anymore, especially with virtual amps and modern single coil pickups.  Sloppy engineering is (not to imply that the OP is a sloppy engineer).  And, I believe that guitar player's name is Page, who used a Les Paul.

Jimmy Page mainly used Fender Teles in the studio, certainly for the first few albums. That solo on Stairway - Tele.

He used Les Paul's live, because he thought they looked cooler.

The point is that single coil PU are noisy when around electronics. I knew I would not get the guitar or player right. I never do, so thanks for the correction. Looks like the OP has wandered off anyhow.

Bad chords is still my favorite suggestion so far.

+1

But the reverb will probably be cut.

+1 to the gate, but as stated above this may cut into the reverb you are trying to achieve, so play with attack/release times and see if you can get an optimal setting.

On a Strat, if near electronics, putting the PU select to bridge/mid will give some humbucking - not as good as a humbucker, but pretty decent.
