I am installing X3D on my laptop today......I also have X3D on my desktop pc.....here's the question...I have tons of plugins on my desktop....what is the most efficient way of getting these on my laptop? Thanks!

No efficient way if some require an installer (i.e. install_xyz.exe).
 
You could try copying the vst folder from the desktop to the laptop (via LAN or CD) then look ads see what doesn;t run or is missing and then install.
 
Some plugins require other folders beyond the .dll residing in your vst folder. Beware of that too.

You almost have to take each one in turn and open the "read me file"  some just drag and drop but most of the better ones are like Bapu say's have to be unzipped and installed. 
 
I keep my whole collection on my external drive and if I happen to build a new DAW then I just drag and drop that folder to the new machine. I might point Sonar at that folder for the scan. Or I'll just copy my favorites to the shared VST folder.  So most are automatically included. The ones that are not I'll install as needed.
