To completely remove a mcafee program, you uninstall it using the regular Windows way and THEN, you run this program: MCPR.exe, I have a link but unfortunately I don't know how to post it here, it's removed from my post if I try.

I think users at this forum need at least 25 posts before they can post links.

Anyway, here is the link to the McAfee removal tool, from the McAfee website:

Well here it is two weeks later, and I just ran a couple of scans, one with Avast and one with MalwareBytes, nothing malicious was found by either. So apparently Avast is doing a good job of keeping viruses and malware out of my computer.  The computer is running very well so I'm happy with the results.

I did a performance check on my computer and found that there were two driver problems, one with a bus controller and a network controller. I checked the device manager and found that the drivers were not installed. I used the Dell Utilities disk for one driver and went to Dell's website and found another driver with an automatic check of my computer. After I installed both drivers, my computer is now passing the performance check, the device manager check, and running like a raped ape.

Congrats on finding out you needed a couple of things.

What is the current status of the whole system, and what is the status of Sonar on it?

Do a Google search on "mcafee removal tool". Make sure you download it from an official McAfee site.

FWIW, I visit many Windows newsgroup and forums and it's a known fact that if you run more than one antivirus program you could run into troubles. For example if you don't like MSE and prefer Avast, install Avast and uninstall MSE.

Win8 comes with Windows defender, if you install a third party AV program, defender should be deactivated. The installation process of the third party AV might be able to do that.

See, this is what I was (and am) still worried about.  Thank you both.  I will investigate more before trying to remove McAfee from my machine. It's (McAffee) a pain in the ass at the moment, but my DAW is not broken. I am finishing up a job at the moment so I don't want to risk changing anything right now that may cause my system to start freaking out.

Again, thanks to all in this forum.  You're the best!

The whole system is running very good but I do have one problem. I tried installing Avast's Grime Cleaner software last night but it wouldn't work. It only works when you reboot your computer and then it needs to log onto the internet to work, for some reason we don't know, it couldn't get an internet connection. At first I thought it was a Windows problem, and tried setting up a freshly reformatted and fresh install on a hard drive and got the same results, so I'm thinking the problem is something to do with my old modem. Anyhow I can't get the Grime Cleaner to work and have asked for a refund.
