Hello

I want to transpose MIDI coming into Sonar.
Say I play a drum pad note that Sonar normally receives as E5, well I want it stored in the Sonar MIDI track as E2 (or something), I specifically want to store this note in the piano roll view of the MIDI track (and I appreciate you could change the note on the instrument or transpose on the way out).

It's sort of the opposite of drum maps whereby you can transpose (or even change midi channels) for notes coming out.
Is this possible?

Thanks

Alex

You could try the MIDI FX transpose plugin. I don't know if it will destructively transpose.

Thanks John I will try it, do you have a link for the plugin? Google's not helping me today obviously :)

MIDI FX operate non-destructively only on the output of the MIDI track. It's not possible to alter MIDI at the input from within SONAR. You would need to run a MIDI utility that sits between the the port driver and SONAR. But I don't recall what freeware utilities might be able to do this. Possibly MIDI-OX.

SONAR does not alter incoming data (audio or MIDI) but in the case of MIDI there is way to display it differently via the global setting in Preferences > Custom > Display "Base Octave for Pitches"

John
That MIDI FX plugin is included with Sonar.

BTW perhaps using a drum map might get you what you want. Drum maps are useful for more than just drums. LOL

Or LoopBe (plus MFX Transpose).

I use eDrum MIDI Mapper along with LoopBe.
I use it with my edrum set and my pad controller and works perfectly.

Thanks guys, will check
John - yes drum map managers are all about what's leaving Sonar (I'm actually using one right now for a different purpose) , I need a MIDI map in manager, I smell a feature request coming on (although I suspect it won't be implemented for quite some time).
