  • [SOLVED] Sonar X2 crash on save only when running as administrator

I've got a weird crash occurring only on one particular project. Its a reasonably large project with a lot of plugins, although I deleted all disabled plugins and the problem still occurs.

I always run Sonar X2 as administrator, because that avoids a few problems with some plugins, for example Pentagon which doesn't work otherwise.

On this particular project and no others, I can open the project, make no changes, hit save, and it will hang until I close it down.

If I run NOT as administrator, the project opens (and warns me that Pentagon isn't found) and saves normally.

Any ideas how I might fix this?

Edit: I just opened as administrator in safe mode and ran all plugins except Pentagon, and it saved fine. Is there an issue with Pentagon? I have two instances running as FX.

Pentagon appears to be corrupted. Reinstalling. Will mark as solved if all comes good.

Fixed. Reinstalled Pentagon, copied programs from backup, reinserted into project, saves as normal.

Do you still need to run as admid to get Pentagon to run?

Hi Grem, just checked and yes, if I don't run as administrator Sonar still reports Pentagon missing.

In order to run Pentagon without administrator privileges requires a registry hack http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/1966631

Thanks Scook, I applied that hack, the project opened without any Pentagon issues, then there was a pop, the main bus level showed a strong flat signal even though there was no audio, and there was no audio on playback.

Ran as administrator again and weirdness went away. I'm going to leave it as is and step away from it slowly....

FWIW, I do not use the hack. Also, there is a well known problem with Pentagon I; be careful to avoid patches which use the Valleys Simulator http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2708401

Its a troublesome synth, but a damn good vocoder.

OK, so the same thing happened again. I think this was my mistake, I had backed up the project previously by copying the project cwp file and audio directory, and I had referred back to that copy and opened it at the same time as the original. I think they were both accessing the same resources and it broke. Does that seem likely? Have restored from another copy and recreated changes, all working fine now.
