I was having a few issues with X2 so thought I'd try the X3 trial.
I opened an existing project and went to browser/insert synth and see the name of an existing custom layout but no synths listed.
I went to manage plug-ins/vsti and see 2 folders, one named vst2 and another named direct x.
I opened vst folder and see most of my synths but they're all greyed out except for a folder named Rapture.
I clicked on the Rapture folder and see Rapture greyed out.
I then clicked on one of the synths (Aria Player) under the registered synths column and then add plug-in and it's added to the vst folder and is not greyed out (YAY!).
I saved the layout with a new name and went back to insert synth.
I see my newly made layout but that's it, no synths.
I searched here for "synth rack x3" and got no results...huh?!
Then I googled "site: forum.cakewalk.com synth rack x3" but didn't find an answer.
Can someone please tell me what the heck I'm missing?
Thanks very much,
Randy

23 views and no replies?
So no one has seen this issue before?

Check the VST folder paths.

Thanks Craig,
I didn't check every single one but the first five I checked were correct (appropriate dll in the folder path the plugin manager shows).
Thanks again,
Randy

I just installed X3 and half my plug ins were missing, Seems it created it own new plug in folder. So all I did was use the plug in manager and add the old folders to the list of pathways.

Alex's advice to "reset and re-scan VST plug-ins" never hurts, and often solves these kinds of problems.

I did the reset and tried a couple other things but it looks like the issue I was having with X2 is not going to be resolved by buying X3.
X2 and X3 can see the Aria player (because I see it flash by on the scan and it shows up under the plugins column) but it won't show up in the default menu or any I create for some reason.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled Aria, GPO and IO more times than I care to mention.
I've taken it to the Garritan forum and Garritan support (never got an answer from them).

What do the plug-in properties show up as in plug-in manager? Is it maybe not configured as a synth? If you're only having problem with one plug-in, which has worked for me with Sonar, then there has to be some unique quality of that plug-in.

In addition to resetting, did you also re-scan?

Will the trial version recognise your existing plugins? I thought it would be a limitation of the trial.

Yessir, configure as synth is checked and like I say it shows up in plugin manager and it shows up if I add it to a newly created custom layout but when I save and open the custom layout it's not there or anywhere in the default vst menu.

It has worked for me too but has always been temperamental

Yes and Sonar finds it every time.
Thanks Craig,
Randy
