• SONAR
  • Rapture versions and registration code conundrums on system wipe and reinstallation

Following a system wipe and reload (for a disk drive upgrade), I've run into trouble installing Rapture.

When I select Insert > Soft Synth in SONAR X2, one of the items in the drop-down list is Rapture, with a '>' symbol next to it.  When I hover over the '>', another list appears with two items:
- Rapture
- Rapture x64
Somehow, it seems that two versions of Rapture have been installed.  I assume that these are 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

If I insert the 'Rapture' synth, I'm prompted for a Registration Code, which I enter, and it is accepted.  However, if I insert the 'Rapture x64' synth, I'm prompted for a Registration Code, which I enter, and it is NOT accepted. I get the error message:
"Invalid registration code. Please make sure to enter the product registration code exactly as you received it from Cakewalk."

How is this even possible?  How could my Rapture registration code - entered exactly as I received it from Cakewalk - work on the 'Rapture' installation but not on the 'Rapture x64' installation?

Any insights appreciated.

There was an update to the Rapture installer for X2 https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013294 to address some installation problems with the version originally shipped with X2. Only install the 32bit version of Rapture if you have installed the 32bit version of SONAR. I also do not let the 64bit VST scanner process the 32bit folder if there is a 64bit version of the same plug-in installed.

I thought you had to also launch Sonar with Run As Administrator to properly complete the registration of Dim Pro and Rapture, or run Rapture stand-alone with Run As Administrator to complete registration.

Give the above a try,

Running as administrator while registering is in the instructions in the link provided above.

Ah, thanks.  I ran that (SONAR_X2_Rapture_1.2.2_Installation_Patch), but then I ran some prior Rapture updates, which hosed things up.  These are:
  • Cakewalk Rapture Expansion Packs 1&2 ('RaptureXPSetup.exe')
  • Galbanum Piscis Rapture Expansion Pack ('Piscis Setup - Rapture.exe')
What became of these?  I seem to recall separate "Expansion Pack x" and "Galbanum Piscis" folders in the Rapture plugin list, but they're not there now.  Where did they go?

BTW, I'm running 64 bit.  And I know to run all installs as Administrator, as well as SONAR when activating these products.

It may be you just need to refresh the program browser with the F5 key.

F5 brought Expansion Pack 1 and Expansion Pack 2 into the list (thanks), but no Galbanum Piscis folder...

I guess I could try installing Galbanum Piscis on top of Rapture 1.22 - if it botches things up, 1.22 will delete and reload the whole lot, I assume.  Yet, doing that seems inconsistent with Cakewalk's integration of Expansion Pack 1 & 2 into Rapture 1.22...

The Galbanum Piscis is a more sophisticated installer, it adds files to the Mutlisample, LFO Waveforms and Programs directories. I would run the Piscis installer again, it did not smash 1.22 for me.

Piscis fills up all the available slots in "LFO Waveforms" directory. I make copies of the "LFO Waveforms" directory for various Rapture expansion packs.

There are two executables in the Piscis download:

Piscis Setup - Rapture LE.exe
Piscis Setup - Rapture.exe

I have the full version, so I ran the second one, and it said:

"The Setup did not find Cakewalk Rapture installation in your system. (Re)Install Rapture and run the setup again.

This is absurd, since Rapture is installed, registered and available in SONAR X2.  I've seen this error before in the distant past, but didn't make a note to myself of how to get around it.
