When you play or export a project, it is easy to see what peak you hit on the Master meter.

Once you have a wav file exported, is there a simple way to detect it's peak level?  Is there any simple little Windows-based tool for this?

I am getting some things ready for mastering and this would be convenient.

Thanks.

The free dynamic range offline meter tt-dr 1.4 works well.
Google it, I don't have a link handy.

Cake should include this feature in their products like Presonus S1 & Cubase do.

Download one of the free audio editors, most of which provide peak and RMS statistics, including level histograms that show the distribution of average RMS values. Audacity is a popular one,but there are many others.

@Pathos - it doesn't look like that plugin is available anymore, from the folks who made it.

It is also a 32-bit only plugin, even if it is out there somewhere.

I will take a look for any similar 64-bit freeware plugins and will post back if I find any.

Please note that after some weird web journey, from the web site that used to offer that plugin, there are some other free plugins available - the first couple seem to be 32-bit, and the last 2 are available in either 32-bit or 64-bit format.

Here is the link for that page:

Those feebies look good. I like the phase ,most useful.
Edit: Except only the meter works. Couldn't get the others to show up

The TT DR and offline meter link are working which is good as I didn't have the offline meter. Scroll down.

In another Daw...RealBand, I use K-meter in the output insert.
K-meter set for normal, and peak where try to stay about -12 db, and monitor the Peak
when playing entire piece.  The bounce there is called (rendering), but happy with the K-meter.
Adjust each individual track to stay pretty close to the parameters.  Am using bit of PG Dynamics
plugin with minimal settings, Sonitus Multiband with preset, Sonitus Reverb on individual tracks
"sometimes".   Individual track levels, changes, and touch ups all done prior the the finalizations.

My goal is to migrate this final work into the 64bit X3d producer for its ability to use more of my
16gig mem for the many VSTi's like to use.  That is some miles down the road.  Am reading and
listening to you folks right now.

I'm so green compared to many of you, so maybe this answer is not even in the park.

I use Sound Forge, Tools, Statistics... Gives Peaks, RMS. Waves has a loudness meter... I want to upgrade to the next level partly for that plug. I like SF for the simple fact of using my effects chain, then checking stats, Undo processing, Udjust threshold, process, check stats, Smile when correct.
