Great stuff indeed. Always inspirational mixes and musicianship. I'll be picking up the download version of your CD this weekend. I'm a bit unclear if you mean your first CD if this is going to be on it. This your first solo CD?

Really like this!   Great drumming!   Overall, great playing and cool writing all around.   I'm very much into your style of music and if you ever want to collaborate or need drum tracks (your drummer is obviously killer too!) please reach out.   I do virtual tracks fairly frequently.  I've heard other things by you that I also like as well.  I'd love to do something   NC!

thanks stxx!
brent dacus, was the drummer on the first album.....
i created demos, using a drum machine..
sent him the demos, he stripped off the drum machine, played along and created his own groove,
then sent me the drum tracks, and i re-recorded everything, playing to the drums,
like i would with a real band.
sweet deal, that was......

this song, is off of my first album, "Trouble", which is out of print. record label i was signed to went belly up.

i believe i will eventually put this up for digital re-release on cdbaby, or i may re-mix this entire thing (it was recorded on a roland VS 1880, and all the files are in proprietary roland -ese, i've got to rip out the wav files using a 3rd party program, and then re-build the whole thing)

the 2nd album, is called "The Time is Magic", and you can get it here:

the new album, is technically released today...
but i'm not going to advertise it until tomorrow, out of respect for veterans day.

it's called "Stay".

Hello Mr. Bat Brew, I am listening on AKG K271, very high quality recording.  I particularly liked the drums, excellent capture on those, clean, not over compressed to my ears.

I liked the changes @ 1:28.  Nice acoustic, and then @ 1:48 that little breakdown deal.  Around 2:56 you bring it all back together.  I like the way the bass seems to lay back at that point until about 3:11.  Nice.

If I were to put on my "producer" cap, I would have suggested You add some lead vocals around 1:58.  The backing chorus id nice, but a more upfront, yet softly sung repeat of some of the lyrics would have been interesting.
I also would have suggested bringing up the lead vocals a db or so.

Nice work, not over done.  I hear what you say about limiters on individual tracks and I hear very little console emulation or tape saturation stuff. But I am deaf in one ear so I turn the headphones around to hear it twice.

Thanks for sharing

This is a killer tune! It's just a great arrangement and fun as hell to listen to from the beginning to the end. Your playing is just fantastic and your vocals just kick ass and it's got a great old school feel to it that I just love. Great stuff!

hi jesse,
thanks for the nice review and kind comments.

i like your ideas, those would totally work.
i don't know if i'll ever revisit re-working any of this older material,
other than to re-mix it for a new digital release.

this was actually completely recorded in a standalone daw, a roland vs1880, there is no emulation or tape saturation, this is just a pure mix that was professionally mastered.
