  • Track envelope automation not working as expected - X3

I have a lead guitar track in Automation/Volume view as the focus.

default volume values are: Volume:-1.2  Gain:-6.8
Envelope starts at 0db

I have a track envelope set to go from 0db to +3.8db for the length of a lead guitar pattern. I then put nodes to do a fast fade out after the lead back to 0db in the envelope. The track is set to read automation. The 'R' is highlighted as active.

With the track set to the above volume and gain, the volume envelope does not seem to change the track volume values visibly.

Shouldn't the volume values of the track change along with the envelope?

add'l info - this is a flattened and unlocked comp lane in the track. Does that type of a lane cause automation to act differently?

Sounds like you're in Offset mode. You should still hear the effect of the envelope, but the widget will show the fixed offset you've set. Plus signs on the controls alert you you're in offset mode. Hit O to return to Envelope mode or click the mode button in the Mix module.

yep, that was it. Thanks! I need to see what the default is because I know I did not intentionally set it to offset mode.

I had noticed that in a new project where the envelope was in the volume widget and was not in this one.

Thank you very much for the reply! :)

I still have a question about the volume value in the track view widget. That volume value does not change as the slider does. Shouldn't that value change too? That value is where my focus was initially on. The slider works as expected, but I rarely use Console view.

As long as you're not in Offset mode then the CV fader and TV widget should always be the same, and that value should be what the envelope is set to at that point along the timeline.

There has got to be something that SONAR does not like about this project. I bounced SONAR again and now the widget does reflect the values in the envelope.

If you get it in that state again, it might be worth sending to CW for review.  Even if you know how to move forward with it there could be useful data in there.

There seems to be an issue with the widget continually displaying the value of the Volume envelope. I opened and closed the console a couple times to verify both were moving along with the envelope. The Console is 100% but the widget has lost the connection to the envelope values again. I am going to see if I can repro the behavior.

There is a definite disconnect with the widget and the Console slider. When I change the slider during playback, the widget displays the last touched volume, but the envelope pulls the slider back and the widget does not follow.

I will try to create a new project from scratch and bug it up. Although it is not as pressing as I initially thought, this still should work like I thought it should.
