  • Is there a virtual midi piano app for dimension pro/rapture standalone? (p.2)

Well - this one seems to be OK, and is 64-bit, and loads 64-bit VST instruments.  I added the Cakewalk VSTPlugins path, or whatever it is called, the default X3 VST plugin path, and it scanned all of the plugins, though of course it cannot load ones that are licensed only for use within X3.

I loaded up Dimension Pro x64, and left its preset browser window open, and just dragged it off to the side, and I found I could quickly load a preset and play some notes on the virtual keyboard of the Cantabile app, then quickly load a new preset into Dim Pro and repeat the process.

So, if that meets your needs, give this one a shot.

I will likely keep both this one and that Free Piano one.

cool - works a treat, just needed to setup the vst plugins and then scan - h=though some of the vst's complained they are onkly licensed to be used with sonar x3 and above... The main thing is I can load the DP and Rapture as a VST Instrument and quickly test each prog...

Good work Rob!!!

... so I can quickly sample dimension pro and rapture programs in their standalone versions?

In the Dimension Pro / Rapture/ z3ta+ / z3ta+2 microhosts, you can audition straight from the QWERTY keyboard.  Here's what's available, with a few of the functions only applying to the original microhost build (zeta+):
  • ESC: All Notes Off
  • F1/F2: Open/Close {synth} Editor (mainly for testing purposes)
  • F3: Set to 44100
  • F4: Set to 48000
  • Shift+F3: Set to 88200
  • Shift+F4: Set to 96000
  • F5: Transpose -12
  • F6: Transpose -1
  • F7: Transpose +1
  • F8: Transpose +12
  • F11/F12: Previous/Next Program
  • Left/Right arrows: Bend down/up
  • Up arrow: CC1
  • Down arrow: CC2
  • Space bar: Aftertouch

Yeah - I never liked doing the QWERTY thing for that.  I DO thank you for posting the function key bindings - I use them very infrequently, and always have to dig those up.  I save your posted ones off in a text doc for future references.

But I thought both of those 2 virtual apps were what he might have been looking for, and they seem cool enough for me to hang onto them, as well.

This is a good thread.

Before I read the entire thread, I went and downloaded SAVIHost, posted by bitflipper. SAVIHost has 32Bit and 64Bit versions as well as VST2 and VST3 versions.

I went and got the x64 VST2 version, and it's working well for me.

Then I read robert_e_bone's post about Cantabile. That's the best options because It scans the VST folder, and any VSTi can be loaded from the Cantabile GUI, and Cantabile lite is feature rich for a free piece of software. Great find indeed, robert_e_bone! Two links to Cantabile Lite tutorial videos:

I'm sorry, but I can't get the Dim Pro or Rapture microhost to play anything using my QWERTY keyboard.

I wonder what I'm missing?

Hi JimmyBoy:

Pressing ESC still doesn't enable me to be able to use the QWERTY keyboard to play Dim Pro or Rapture using their microHosts.

Cantabile certainly comes in handy for me.

Just a thought, maybe you have the program listing as the active context and its not in the context of the dim pro/rapture app, so when you press a key on your qwerty its active in the list - try changing the active context and make the dim pro/rapture app the active program and hit the qwerty again... or you may have chosen a program that is not within the range of the qwerty,... I've noticed in rapture if I choose any of the drum programs and hit the qwerty I get nothing played back though I certainly get sound for any of the sequences,.. hope that makes sense.
