I just looked at the Softtube Console 1.

Faders not there aside, it only allows control of its own Softube plugins.

This is from their Q & A page:

Q: But what about the plug-ins I own from other developers?

You can still use them just as you did before, insert them in your DAW and mix with the mouse. You can toggle on/off the Console 1 On-Screen Display with a dedicated button on the hardware, so just turn it off to see your DAW windows again. Working like this, you will get a workflow that is very similar to an analog studio. Console 1is your mixer and centerpiece, and the other plug-ins are like your outboard rack effects that you patch in and adjust separately. Console 1 makes your workflow easier, it doesn't take anything away or lock you in.

Q: So I can't use other developer's plug-ins within the Console 1 system?
Not currently. We'll see what happens.

Interesting concept - I think as currently implemented, it would distract me and be a bit cumbersome, in having to switch back and forth for controlling other plugins, as well as the faders.

Yeah, it wouldn't suit all ways of working for sure.

I've got a v700, and what I find is that I use the channel strip control knobs for ProChannel EQ and compression, and generally use the mouse for most other things. So I'm already more or less working in a Console 1 sort of way. On that basis, I find it quite appealing.

I also like the fact that, as it's actually not a DAW controller, you're not having to deal with shaky DAW control surface support. This, I think, is of particular relevance to Sonar users, as at the moment, Cakewalk have basically quietly abandoned control surface support.

This is something a bit different; a combined hardware and software channel strip. I think it's a really interesting approach.

I have used a Behringer FCB1010 midi foot board for years now, and the thing is as rugged as it gets.

I have also had some cheapo mixers from them that just quit working after a while.

I suppose it depends on which line of products you are looking at with them.

Uh - oh - time to take over the world again, eh Dexter?

Cool, glad you thought of that, and that it worked - I suppose you were pacing yourself, for those 10 years?  :)
