  • Want to upgrade to X3 but NO GO if editing bug hasn't been fixed. (p.2)

Thats funny I got the exact opposite conclusion. X3 was greeted with a great deal of glee. It was even noted here how smooth the roll out was.

What you may be referring to could be postings on take lanes. Most of those turned out to be user error. And the ones that weren't  were an inability to accept how things work.

Being very vocal on a subject may seem to the casual reader as evidence but in the end with careful reading it turns out its bogus or personal opinion meaning prejudice.

Now getting back to being able to move a clip accurately. Have you tried Aim Assist? Also it occurs to me that not all mice are precise in their movements. You may want to look at the resolution of your mouse.

I am curious to see what this is as well. Another helpful thing when moving clips is having the vertical grid lines displayed in front of the clips (in the Track View: View->Display->Vertical Grid Lines->In Front of Clips). Without seeing this issue, it is difficult to understand "exactly" what it is.

I hate that sonar chooses to use the term slip editing when everyone else does not. It confuses the crap out of people with video editing backhround where that term has completely different meaning.

such are the dangers of forums, and indeed life itself! it always amazes me how people remember things differently, so here's a link to help you separate the (well-meaning) hog-wash from the (well-meaning) hog-wash http://lifehacker.com/how-to-train-your-mind-to-think-critically-and-form-you-1516998286

I thank you for the link. I do think. I hold that I think rather deeply. Others may have a very different view.

x3d has been stable for me. not to say that i don't get the occasional crash or weird gui glitch. but nothing that keeps me from working. ctrl-s is my mantra...

There were indeed problems in x2 with odd behavior when moving clips in take lanes. I in fact posted some video about this on this forum. Here it is again:

http://www.nomadrecording...nes%20drag%20error.MOV

This particular issue was related to deleted take lanes. This seems to have been fixed i n x3. At least I have not observed it yet.

To the op I suggest you download the demo and try it.

Snap to grid is already off. What i'm referring to is very slight - like one or two 'bits', not 'bytes', being off after i move a clip.  I've been using the nudge feature with my arrows to compensate. I would have to upload a short video to explain what i'm talking about. Again it's only a few bits (there's 8 bits in a byte).

Do you have "snap to nearest audio zero crossing" enabled in Preferences? That's the default and produces the kind of behavior you're describing.

I vividly remember last year or so when X3 came out, the complains of bugs, idiosyncrasies, etc, were greater than that which other incarnations of Sonar have incurred. That's what i meant.

I don't think that is a correct assessment. First, there were lots of "this version is great" threads. Second, many of the complaints were due to unfamiliarity with the program, and were solved shortly after posting. For example people thought Take Lanes didn't work, because they didn't work as they had before. Once they figured out the different paradigm, most took to the concept.

Also, many of the bugs that were actual bugs (either at Sonar's end or at the end of other products working with Sonar) were squashed with three rapid-fire updates.

Exactly, that's why you need to form your own opinion (demo).
(BTW there are still some really annoying flaws with takelanes which make it unintuitive and given it a slightly half baked smell, some of which still hasn't been directly addressed (rather sidestepped), but it has always been the way to go forward IMHO, it does work).
