such are the dangers of forums, and indeed life itself! it always amazes me how people remember things differently, so here's a link to help you separate the (well-meaning) hog-wash from the (well-meaning) hog-washhttp://lifehacker.com/how-to-train-your-mind-to-think-critically-and-form-you-1516998286

As God's my witness i was going to say something like that, but since i was the 'stranger' in town, know one 'knows', i deleted the little i had typed. That's why i haven't posted anymore. When i see some one either doesn't trust you, because they don't know you, and it's on something in the past that's fairly dissipated and enigmatic, with many 'dots' to connect, i often shift into the "if they can't see it, you can't explain it to them" mode. That's why theologians argue all the time - too many 'Labels' with too many loose ends dangling in the wind over something their hearts are greatly attached too. The fact is we're both right, just like with religion many times.

If i come across a camcorder i'll post a vid of what i'm talking about. Since it's so slight in movement a screen capture app wouldn't grab it. Off to finished my tune..

If you are a true critical thinker you would install the demo then :).... that bypasses all the issues stated above and will give you the answers you need.

I vividly remember last year or so when X3 came out, the complains of bugs, idiosyncrasies, etc, were greater than that which other incarnations of Sonar have incurred. That's what i meant.

I don't think that is a correct assessment. First, there were lots of "this version is great" threads. Second, many of the complaints were due to unfamiliarity with the program, and were solved shortly after posting. For example people thought Take Lanes didn't work, because they didn't work as they had before. Once they figured out the different paradigm, most took to the concept.

Also, many of the bugs that were actual bugs (either at Sonar's end or at the end of other products working with Sonar) were squashed with three rapid-fire updates.

To reiterate what Craig said. This has been the best release of the SONAR X series and probably one of the best in our history. Of course people are going to have issues and questions out of the gate and we've been responding and updating SONAR based on the feedback. SONAR X3 is a mature program that has been very well received by users and press.

Have you checked yet whether "snap to nearest zero crossing" is enabled?

Critical thinking would demand testing the hypotheses that are presented as possible solutions in order to identify whether something is truly a bug, or simply a case of unfamiliarity with the program's defaults.

So popular do I think this release of Sonar has been, I don't recall there being so many old time sonar users come out of the woodwork on the forum. All with positive comments. The number of new users too has been unprecedented. While many of their problems have been related to first time user problems there's been an unprecedented level of positive support from forum members. To cap it off, the Cakewalk staff have been on the forum and busy with new updates, to the point of it being blatantly obvious how much folks care about this product and it's users.

This forum is like a central hub of activity where all involved in the making, selling or use of Sonar come together and share to the betterment of everyone.

I was reluctant to try X3 because of the roll out write-ups about X1 and even X2.  But I went for X3 from 8.5.3, and have not looked back.  It is fabulous.  There was a minor learning curve, but for some reason I could not go back to 8.5.3.

What's going on? Judging from the product itself and the responses in this forum, X3 is a success, although there ARE issues (including Take Lanes issues) confirmed by CW. As others mentioned, there's a demo available now. If you find some issue, report it to CW via Problem Reporter. You'll know in a few to several days if it's a bug or a user error or something else. I wonder why people prefer to speculate and jump to conclusions and then get disagreed and start arguing and so on. Waste of time IMO.

If he doesn't know about the zero-crossing preference, then he'll just make the same mistake when he tries out the demo because it will also default to snapping to the nearest audio zero-crossing.

Craig, forgive my ignorance, but doesn't that also toggle with "snap to grid"? I had assumed that setting only applied with snap to grid enabled.

...What i'm referring to is very slight - like one or two 'bits', not 'bytes', being off after i move a clip...

I'm confused by this description.
