Hey,

I work with SONAR X1 LE. I use it to record myself for narrations and, because of this, I need clean recordings. There seem to be very little tutorials for this version, though, and because of it, I've still been unable to get rid of white noise in the background. As I'm still fairly new to SONAR, can somebody explain to me step-by-step how I can remove this? I have autism, so please try to be very specific.

Thank you.

To get rid of it after the fact, all you need to do is purchase a plugin like Waves X noise and then do a noise profile for the white noise and run the plugin with that noise profile.

To get rid of it before you start recording, you need to see what part of your signal chain is causing this white noise as there should be no noise in your recording chain that is audible. it can be an electrical issue or an outboard gear issue. You  would need to start troubleshooting to see what it is by ruling everything out

Audacity is a free program that has the ability to remove noise. It is its own program, so it would require the audio track you are working with to be exported from SONAR first (can simply drag the audio file from the track to your desktop). Here is a tutorial I found that has a good description of how to do noise reduction in Audacity (it also has a link to the Audacity download page). http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/remove-ambient-noise-audio-files-audacity/

It sounds very much like its a result of you recording level being too low. When that happens the noise floor is high and that's probably the white noise as you call it. Actually it's just hiss. At a guess anyway.

You need to record at 24 bit. Give us a bit more info such as type of mic and your audio interface/sound card.
