I haven't managed to figure out how to respond directly to  a person's post but this post is aimed at "Mudgel"  (I think it is) who told me how to get Melodyne to appear in the Options Regions FX tab ...  an mindless error as both end in "ons".   I have a  little hair left after trying to get Melodyne Essential to Integrate with  Sonar X3 Studio.  It  needs to be trimmed but I lost a lot of it installing and uninstalling everything having to do with both programs just trying to make the dog gone things work together.  At one time I mistakenly thought I saw the Melodyne label in the Options  (not Options FX)  located in the lower part of the display.  Hence I kept looking there for the label and not for the Regions FX Tab.  I am quite sure that's where appeared in  and earlier attempt to use the feature.

THIS IS AN EDIT ..  After examination I found that I had the Main ScreenSet set  to screen Number 4 which placed the Regions FX tab in the lower part of the display

That's a long winded way of saying thanks MUDGEL.  Maybe I can not get on with trying to learn the DAW's features  and begin finding out what "Groove" and "Re-Wire"   and some of the other jargon used in the business means!

EDIT 2.... A decent glossary of Terms i ...

By the way, can a choral arrangement be edited with Melodyne Essential in a monophonic (v polyphonic) manner?  I'm beginning to believe  Hopefully I am wrong) it can not since Essential does not incorporate the DNA.  Could it be that as I learn more about DAWs the pocketbook is savagely raped in many ways?

Throw the file into Melodyne Essential and see. Melodyne Editor may be needed. It may be a good idea to spend some time with the videos on CakeTV to become familiar with the features in X3.

Also there should be a quote button on each post

I assume I should load the X3 Studio Patch X3d.  Will that help prevent a recurring BSOD  issue from raising its ugly face?

I doubt the X3d patch will prevent BSOD but it would be a good idea to be patched current. BSOD are usually hardware or driver issues.

I always drag select whichever bit of audio I want to melodyne, then hit CTRL+M.
If that doesn't work, something went wrong with your install.

And yes, yes now that you've started in the DAW world, pro audio companies will rape your pocketbook all day and night, and twice during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Melodyne is a great investment though, especially since it's a full license and so is any upgrade, meaning not tied to Sonar necessarily in any way. If you plan on doing any serious vocal recording and editing it's an indispensable tool, and it can be used creatively on other things. Learn what you have first though!

BSOD and Process level exceptions are my specialty :) As scook pointed out a BSOD is at the System level, some driver or hardware issue is at play - it's pertinent to try and keep all your drivers and OS software up-to-date.  Make sure any of your equipment connected to your DAW has the latest drivers from the vendor...   It's really quite difficult to cause a BSOD these days from an application - also ensure your anti-virus software is up-to-date.

Cheers
Jim

Edit: You should also list the equipment you use and software along with OS details in your sig when you post, helps others to focus on what your using.

The music production course is awesome.  I have run into mettelus over there and can confirm what he says about how much you learn about other DAWs.  Many are complete beginners so they don't have years of bias and marketing hype.  Without years of PT indoctrination, telling someone they have to shell out 4050 just to use the trial sounds bizarre.

@mettelus  I think i may just audio the songwriting course.  His lectures come off as performance art even though he has some good info.  he just takes forever to get to it.

I am currently taking the songwriting course, and his lecture style could be a little off-putting to some.  I am ok with it, because at least I am being entertained.  The real strength of the course seems to be the assignments and the peer evaluation process.  Obviously, I am only 2 weeks in, but so far its been worth my time.
