  • Windows Locks-up when shutting down after running Sonar X3 (RME FF UFX)

After running Sonar X3 (I also had this problem with Sonar X2) and exiting X3, then when I go to shut down Windows-7, Windows does not completely exit (stays stuck on Windows Shutting Down screen). This does not happen if I have just been running my DAW PC and the RME FF-UFX and TotalMixFX.

And yes, I am running the latest drivers for my UFX.

The lockup also does not happen if I first power-down my UFX before shutting-down windows.

I have an Intel Core I7 3770 IVB Processor, 3.5 GHz, Z77 Motherboard, DDR3 1600 MHz 8GB RAM, running Windows-7 Pro 64-bit. The RME FF-UFX is connected to a USB-2 port.

Anyone with similar H/W ever experience this? Any solutions?

edit: corrected typo on RAM size

I'd like to say I had the same problem and found a solution but my installation is running fine.

I had been running on Win 7 up until about two weeks ago when I switched out to Win 8. At that time I updated my UFX firmware and drivers. My system does seem a bit more stable with regard to the UFX, particularly when watching video tutorials.

Wish I had a solution for you, best of luck.

Are you running the UFX on Firewire or USB?

I have not seen this with the UFX but I had the NI Audio Kontrol that would stop an old laptop shuting down until I unplugged the USB cable.

I also have not experienced this issue. In fact I never use the on/off switch on the UFX. It has the latest drivers and is connected via USB. My startup/shutdown process:
Startup:
1. Power up my Furman to power on UFX, powered monitors, display monitors, and power to PC
2. Power on PC to start Windows 8.1
3. TotalMix auto starts
4. Start Sonar X3
Shutdown:
1. Exit Sonar X3 (leave TotalMix running)
2. Shut Down Windows. PC powers down.
3. Power off Furman to shut down power to all devices

System never hangs during shutdown. My experience has been the same with Win 7 and Sonar X2. Wish I had a solution for you, but maybe something will 'click' as others chime in. Good luck getting this resolved.

Alex - I don't think the driver and firmware versions you mentioned are correct.

The UFX Driver and Firmware I am running are as follows:
Driver date : 23.11.13
Driver version : 1.038
H/W Rev : 353
TotalMix FX Version : 0.996

Per the RME website, these are current.

I am slightly behind with the latest RME updates. see below (thanks Alex, I needed to check anyway)

Alex, your post made me think of something else. You requested Bob to check he is running 3.081 driver and firmware 341/42. These are the latest FireWire versions and are not required for USB connections.
Bob, make sure you click on the USB Series link on the RME site to download the latest drivers.

Here are the latest USB driver and firmware versions from the RME site:
Windows PnP driver for Fireface UFX, UCX, UC and Babyface, version 1.038. (I'm on version 1.036)
Windows Flash Update Tool for Fireface UFX, UCX, UC, Babyface. Update to firmware revision UFX: 353/156/341/21, UCX 42/220/23/7, UC: 118, Babyface: 204. (I'm on version 352)

I'll upgrade to the latest versions this weekend and report back...
