Hello,
I purchased Sonar X3 as an upgrade from Music Creator Touch on Steam.  I have several different sound packs with the Music Creator Touch; Steinway Grand Piano, World Instruments, Vintage Keyboards, Modern Strings and Guitars.  Will these work with Sonar X3 and if so how do I access them when running Sonar X3?

Thanks for your help,
Robert

If they are already in your VST folder, Sonar will find them automatically. If they are 32 bit then it will use Bit bridge to make them run in 64 bit Sonar.
You can copy and paste most .dll files to the Sonar folders.
If they are registered then a registered copy of the software they came with needs to reside.

Are the sounds that you mention just sounds ie. samples? or are they full on programs that include a player of some sorts. A plugin.

If there's a plugin it is probably installed already from Music Creator in which case its likely you have a VST plugin folder somewhere. Perhaps Sonar already knows where that folder is if it migrates info from Music Creator during installation. If not then you need to tell Sonar where the plugin lives. ie the path to the folder that its in.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response, I just got finished looking at the files in my Steam account.  Steam organizes all of its game and applications in a "common" folder, the path is L:/Steam/SteamApps/common/Cakewalk.  Both applications are installed in this folder and there is a separate Vstplugins folder so I am assuming that these sound packs are in there.  They were additional DLC that I purchased when purchasing Music Creator Touch so I think that they are more than just samples.  I see the same ones listed in the Cakewalk store.
Thanks again,
Robert

They are Cakewalk Sound Center expansion packs. They should work fine in SONAR.

I've basically done the same thing.. I purchased Music Creator Touch, ( initially I was messing around with Music Maker in Windows 8 it's a free download in the MS windows metro shop and thought this is cool, so decided to look for a better DAW ad ended on deciding with Music Creator) and then later upgraded to X2 Studio and then X3 Studio and now X3 Producer...

I uninstalled Music Creator before installing X2 Studio, can I selectively install the VST plug-ins, instruments and stuff from Creator without installing Music Creator program and use them in X3 Producer?

I did not know there were plug-ins in MC which are not included in SONAR Producer. I only have this list to go by though. There are plug-ins that only work in 32bit hosts such as the older 32bit DX plug-ins. Those plug-ins are not installed by the 64bit SONAR installer. There were also a few plug-ins discontinued with X3 but I do not believe they were ever part of MC. Content like the expansion packs mentioned above are another matter. But they have separate installers.

Steve,

I don't know how you do it but your doing it really well - your knowledge is really deep! Good stuff mate...

BTW you need to update your sig with your equipment list, and by doing so I think you should get some kick backs on any of the equipment and software you list in your sig.. and are you a member of the reverbnation.com?  (I'm guilty of snooping on you hehe)

And Mike, if you live near Ballarat I regularly do the Ballarat Cancer Research ride thing around the lake, (missed the last one though) and the ride over the little mountain there - great part of Victoria!

WRT hw/sw I don't use anything particularly unusual. To my knowledge I have never been on reverbnation.com but I do share a very common name with many others.
