  • [Solved] The Bus That Wasn't There

Hello.  I'm re-working an older project I made in Sonar 8.5.  The project currently has three buses: the Master bus, the Metronome bus, and a VocVerb bus I created to handle reverb on the vocal tracks.  There are the 3 buses visible in the Console view.

Now, in the Console view, if I right-click on a track's send controls, I see a list of available buses.  Yet, this list is populated with 6 buses: the Main audio output bus, the Master bus, the Metronome bus, the VocVerb bus, and tow additional buses identified as Track Compressor (Input 2) Voc1, and Track Compressor (Input 2) Voc2.   I can't see these 2 Track Compressor buses in the Console View (and yes, I have expanded the bus section of the Console view to see all the buses).

These two Track Compressor buses may have been something I made in my previous mixes of this project.  But I don't need them in this mix.  If the buses are "hidden" how do I reveal them?  If these buses are not "hidden" why do they not show up in the Console view?  And how come these buses show up as options when right-clicking in the Console track send area?

Assuming they are hidden, from the Console view Strips menu bring up the Track Manager (keyboard shortcut H). Click the check boxes to the left of the two buses. Hidden buses are still available as sends.

Are they side chain inputs for compressors?

Yeah, they don't read like buses. They read like side chain inputs. If this is the case, they are not hidden buses but sends to the side chain inputs on an effect called "Track Compressor" on tracks Voc1 and Voc2.

I don't know why Cake changed the naming of these, it's caught a few people out.  It seemed more logical before.

Hello.  I forgot to mention in my initial post: the Track manager only lists 3 buses: Master, Metronome, and VocVerb.  The 2 Track Compressor buses are not listed in the Track Manager.

I do have two vocal tracks in this project, and both tracks are using the compressor that is part of the ProChannel effects chain.

So do I understand this correctly? the 2 buses labelled Track Compressor are automatically created when I use a ProChannel compressor, and these 2 buses are what I would use if I wanted to send audio to a side chain input for these compressors.  Is that correct?

They are not buses, but they are side chain inputs for the compressor.

They used to be labeled something more obvious, like PC4K Bus Comp, etc.

Ok.  Thanks for helping me understand this.
