It seems to be a 64-bit program and while you get that generic error message, it means that it will not run on your computer.

"If the program is designed for a 64-bit version of Windows and you're running it in a 32-bit version of Windows, it will not work and generate this error."

And anyway, 64-bit instructions to the CPU include 64-bit instructions not native to a 32-bit program or CPU. Otherwise it all be 32-bit programs yet, so 64-bit means different programming instructions (think of it as "enhanced" instructions and 32-bit does not know what those are).

Hold up - this guy is trying to use some other process than the normal install, to get X3d to run on a 32-bit install of Windows XP.

Multiple folks have indicated this is not ever going to work, and the Cakewalk staff has explicitly indicated that this would never be supported, nor do they want anyone doing this.

The original poster pretty much indicated he was going to continue to try, despite the above.

Why is anyone continuing to participate in this thread?

This thread should just dry up and go away.

I urge the OP to simply accept the advice given in the thread... the suggestions are for practical reasons. Yes, it is possible to bypass an installer to load things that is told not to, but 1) there is more than one installer involved, and 2) the program will crash when dependency files fail to load. Even though you keep pointing out "32 bit" you are ignoring the O/S part, which is there for a good reason.

Edit: Even in the OP, you answered your own question pertaining to this... so the simple answer is "You are on XP"

I agree, Bob.

However, PsychatoR, you are steadfastly missing or ignoring the point. The operative is not 32 bit.
It is Windows 7 or 8. There is code present in W7/W8(and to an extent, Vista) that is simply not present in XP.

We ran into the same thing when Microsoft moved from Windows98 to XP.
To move forward, reverse compatibility had to be sacrificed. It turned out to be a good thing, but some software got left by the wayside. And new programs were written to use the new code in the new OS, so most likely would not run in the older W98 environment. I still have an operational Windows98 machine for some favorite programs that were never ported to XP.
Vista32 is not XP32. And W7/8 (32 bit) is not Vista.
There is no conspiracy. It is what it is.
Yes, I am running X3 on a Vista machine, and I feel lucky to be able to do that. I know its days are numbered, but that's ok.
Bottom line, if you insist on running old hardware, don't expect to run new software.
