Hey guys -

I am looking to buy VDrums. So far, the Roland TD 11 looks to be the best deal in my pricerange ( $1,500 ish).
Before I purchase this from Sweetwater or Musicians Friend, I figured I would ask here if anyone knows a reputable dealer with a better price?

    Any feedback appreciated.  Thanks.

I believe most of them will be close, it'd be better to wait for a sale or google for a coupon from the dealers.

Obi - Thanks for the thought.  I didn't think to check for any coupon deals, turns out there weren't any, but good thought anyways I would of missed it!  Unfortunately I need it by Sat so I can't wait around.  Thanks for the response.

Gustabo - Thanks for turning me on to Hello Music, I had never heard of it.  As Obi guessed, they seem to be all priced very close.  Maybe someone will throw out a "Monday VDrum Sale!" tomorrow....

I have for 4 years been extreamly pleased with my Yamaha DTXpress IV kit.  It was around $1500 from Musiciansfriend but is less now.

Let us know where you end up buying it from and how you like it. I've always wanted an electric set, but can't give up my cymbals. I'd miss them too much.

I hear you on cymbals Obi!  It really seems tough to capture all the velocity layers and sound of a real cymbal or high hat.  I've heard of people using real cymbals with an electric kit.

I went with the Td11 Kit from Sweetwater, it should be here on Thursday.  Yep, vacation day requested from work and I will be sitting at my door step awaiting it's arrival!  (This means it will come on Friday instead!)

I ordered a 10 foot midi USB chord, I wonder what the maximum length should be for minimum latency.

Lol that's awesome! 12-16 ft is the longest Midi cable available due to power restrictions from what I've heard. You can always get a MIDI repeater though. I have seen a few people use electric sets with real cymbals which I may have to try out sometime because I LOVE my cymbals. Its odd, when you find what you like you don't want to step away.

I have been using an 8m (25ft) midi cable for one of my keyboards with no apparent problems.  10m is the longest that I have seen:

Cable length isn't an issue for latency. The signal travels far too fast for it to be a concern. The minute latency it would add is vastly overwhelmed by the other latencies in a DAW based environment.

One thing you could do of course is put down the track initially while listening to local sounds from the V-Drum kit, while recording the MIDI to disk. Then you'd have very little latency. You could then go back and select the actual sound you want after the fact. That could though be a bit of a vibe killer while recording.
