Oh dear....not very good is it?

In fact I would go so far to say that it is drivel.

Parts of it sound like it could be the soundtrack to some made for TV movie on Lifestyle.

Had to immediately put on Relics when it was over. So much more fire & soul in their early stuff.

Me too. I got it from the library and was so anxious to listen to it.
I gave it a serious listen all the way through.
It seems like it is trying to be "elevator music".

I had to listen to Ummagumma to recover.

Yeah it sounds like they were phoning it in. In many parts it sounded like a futile attempt to recreate their earlier glory - I heard little snatches of chords and melody which I recognized from The Wall and Wish You Were Here.

Try listening to some John Tesh first, then it will seem very alive and awesome in comparison!

Pretty much what I'd expect.

I haven't listened to it yet and I'm not even curious to hear it. Life's too short for bad art and mediocre music.

Hi,

It was poor and I think that DG should not have done what he did. Maybe just let the pieces out on their own, but adding a guitar and trying to make a song in some cases, was boring.

In most cases, there is something missing, and I think DG took them out.

Of all the albums, that RW plays on, including his solo albums (both of which I happen to like a LOT!), if you separate the keyboard sound, it is not aimless, and "empty". It seems to be there because it belongs there. And its design is very well done, and thought out and it is placed on the rest of the music, with a touch that is crazy ... that you and I can only dream about.

There were, way too many subtleties in the playing that suggested that this was not just rock'n'roll for RW, and it was a touch that most keyboard players do not have. It's not just a note here and there, its a feeling that continues and takes you away on its own, and in many places, like The Wall, these touches are actually against the grain of the lyrics and sound, but it helped make it special.

I doubt, that PF would have been as successful without RW. It might have had a hit or two, but I don't think that it would have put together the history that it did, eventually.

Hi,

This reminds me a lot of a comment that Richard Barbieri makes in one interview. He states that he can not play prog/progressive, because he would not know where to start ... and that he is much more like Eno, just trying to add atmosphere to the music.

And there is no better "fan" of RW, than Richard, and he admits it, and when he talks about this, you know that he knows why Richard had issues with Roger ... Richard did not want to play a pop song! He did that 40 some years before when he was a youngster, and it did not justify the inner growth of one's music ... for just a song!

"Both?"  He's got several, albeit some seem to be direct PF rip-offs...

I've got Amused To Death and may listen to it later today while the snow falls.

The problem is there were a number of keyboard players who contributed to the wall as Rick was very much on his way out during the recordings. One detailed account, though I'm not sure of its accuracy:

Also, not for nothing, but using "RW" as an abbreviation for a PF member is confusing for obvious reasons.

The 'RW' that Pedro is talking about is Rick Wright, who only did 2 solo albums.

As for The Endless River, it's pretty average stuff. I have great admiration for Gilmour as a musician, but it seems he needed Roger Waters to bring out the best in him.
